Default How do you shift without the clutch????

I was just reading this article on the Car and Driver website about all the new supercars (http://www.caranddriver.com/article....rticle_id=6730) and I was reading about the new Murciélago and I read this quote
"Lamborghini’s gated six-speed shifter is still somewhat stubborn, at least by modern standards. As you depart one gear, it’s wise to pause a beat before selecting another. Clutchless shifting—as one might undertake in, say, a Nissan 350Z or Acura NSX—is close to impossible, no matter your skill at matching revs."

can anyone clarify that for me? How do you shift without the clutch and not cause damage?

you can do it but you would have to be at a certain rpm for each gear for it to work dont see what the benefit myself i have no problem pushin on the clutch pedal to shift gears.. you could probly just pull it out of gear as your driving and push lightly on the gear shifter till it goes in if you clutch went out on you this might be beneficial

say you're at 5500 rpm in 2nd gear. pop into neutral WITHOUT touching the clutch, and with you foot OFF the throttle. bring the shifter to the 3rd gear gate, and pop it into 3rd as soon as you're at 5000. you should feel almost NO resistance if you timed it correctly. you may need to experiment with how many RPM's you want to let drop. basically this is a newbie form of revmatching, allowing your engine to slow down to the speed of your transmission, which hypothetically is what a clutch does. enjoy =D

In the days before paddle shifters, a good race driver would go most of the race without clutching. It was all done by ear. (And now, I've never been rich enough to give it a try ... probably lots easier if it's someone else's car or if you have uber mechanix in the pits waiting for your to carry parts in in a zip-lock.) It used to be called speed shifting and was used in drag racing, too.

Trip-tronic shifting. The system in the Lambo is very much like the BMW SMG, if I am correct. Which allows you to shift without using a clutch. The Bimmer and Lambo systems are different though because they don't use the power sucking slushboxes that we use.

I could possibly be wrong. But I believe I read this somewhere.
