Default STi owner asked did I buy the 350Z just for its looks?

STi owner asked did I buy the 350Z just for it's looks? He goes on to say that I certainly didn't buy it because it's the fastest sportcar in its price range, nor the best handling sports car in this price range, and it's not the most practical in it's range. Why did I buy the Nissan because it was a Nissan? He stated man I don't get it. If I wanted a Porsche I wouldn't buy a look a like, he goes on to say.

My comment was because it was a Z-car, no one has to ask if its a Sports car by looking, no one has to ask what it is, its either a Z car or a Porsche.
Its fast enough and handles well enough that it puts a smile on my face while standing inside or outside it.

The STi I've driven are impressive while driving but a stop sign they look like a kid that stole his dad credit car and bought 3rd party parts to built it.

And standing outside it almost make you wanta cry or laugh. I know this is objective viewing. I have nothing but praise for the STi drive train and performance but its hard to look at and say its a Sports car more a mud racer/rally car brought to the street.

In hindsight I'd pick a 350Z car over a STi anyday, but I wouldn't race one.

Now if I had to choose one car for all seasons it would be the funny looking awd STi, but for a Sports Car the Z all the way. I got a jeep so I don't need a Subraru. We agreed to disagree.

How would you have answered him with out fist it cuffs?

The STi was below my threshold for a sports car and I didn't even consider it for a nanosecond.

Actually the Z was the cheapest car I even considered buying.

I goes plenty fast enough.

I personally think it looks like a box. Thats what me and my dad used to call them. They are a good little car but I couldn't drive one everyday.

people that ask question like that **** me off. It's like if you went up to him and said "Did you buy the STi because you can't handle rear wheel drive?" It's just being offensive for the hell of it

Some people get off by thinking there car is better. If you like it buy it, don't tell people their car looks bad, because they obviously don't think that. What you should have done was Thrown Ice Cream in his face and said " you will remember me forever."

couldn't agree more. It's like they try to find something insulting to say to make themselves feel better instead of just respecting someone elses taste or opinion.

HAha STI guy got owned by his own ugly car

I didn't come up with the quote, but you can make a Z faster but you can't make an STI prettier

Also keep in mind the Evo and STI are designed primarily to enhance the image of the cheaper models (ie standard lancer and standard impreza). They can't stray too far away from the 'standard commuter car' look or else the association with speed and sportiness is lost.

That was well expressed. All the respect in the world for the Sti. Would I EVER buy one? Never. The Z is the BEST looking sports car in its class and many classes higher IMHO. Its plenty fast right out of the box and handles superbly. Plus its a fun to drive, rear-whell drive, two-seat bullet. Love it!

Understeering AWD ftl. Ask him how it runs on a highway and laugh as you leave.

I love the STi! it is a tech masterpiece, its goodlooking because its function over form (like a AR15 Machine gun looks good). I NEARLY bought one.
BUT the Z is SOOOOO good looking and its a real sports car, and i don't want a Boxter (really the Cayman S is comparable in performance, but,not in price).
Top Gear rate it very high and think theres a good chance you'll look less of a **** in a Z than in a pretend 911.
EVO magazine rate the Z the best small coupe and it came in 8th for car of the year 2007 0.6 points behind the Lambo Superlaggera for pure driver experience.

On a shallower note, I work with some very cute women who ALL love the Z. We were all out for dinner one night and when we were leaving I said to a couple of them that I nearly bought one of those instead of the Z, and motioned to a silver STi.
The girls looked at me like I had said I nearly traded the Z for magic beans!!!!
I always knew I had made the right choice but then I really knew.

the STi is only impressive from a stop, just like any AWD...and on the highway, it CANNOT beat a z, I have the 287 and it either dead even Or the Z pulls slowly. Cant imagine what a REVUP or an HR would do 2 one.

I am confused that the two would be compared other than the fact that they are both vehicles. The type of person that owes a STI is very different for the type of person that owes a Z. Neither bad nor good. just different. The cool thing about our generation is that we are a open minded group that appreciates different views. We should keep in mind that everyone that has a passion for cars has a passion for their own type of car, whether its a civic or Dodge Ram. As a group we should embrace others love for the automobile performance industry. It wouldn't be nearly as fun if we all had that same stuff.

very well put, but in the case of this thread...although you are passionate about ur own vehicle, you should never put down another man's treasure! Esp if they are trying to make themselves feel good.

Stock for stock the STi isn't thaat much faster than a Z, especially on the highway like someone else said. I hate how people with STi's think they are so much faster than a Z, it is easier to mod and can be made much faster for less money but there are plus's and minus's for all cars. I was with my buddy in his 06 g35coupe and no lie we were neck and neck with a STi on the highway from 65-110, the sti driver didn't look happy!
