Red face My New Z owned by a 18 wheeler

I was on Rt 4 East 2 nights ago headed towards NYC when a UPS 18 wheeler merged into my car. I was in the middle lane, he was passing me on the left when i felt my car being pushed aside. We pulled over, I didnt even wanna check the damage. His extended lugs were just grinding against my car. Even though he admitted it was his fault and apologized, I think my insurance will hike. This is NJ & the cop said he had to put it down as no fault. Time will tell, I'll pick up the police report tomorrow. Ill post pics hopefully tonight or tom.

same thing happened to my friend's rx-7. the truck didn't see him on the right, and the huge truck changed lanes right into him and sideswiped his entire left side. then he lost control of the rx-7 and rolled up a small hill and into a lamp post. the rx-7 is totalled. but luckily he was not seriously hurt. he too is awaiting the police report and ready to go to court.

I am sure that it will be at least 2-3k because the cost of a new Rays Engineering wheel. They will most likely have to place the rear quarter also.
But I am not a body man so who knows.

new quarter panel, maybe a new rear bumper? pictures arent clear enough to say that for sure, but if your not paying, probably so.

the thing is, you will obviously need a new rim. and a new tire possibly. you could almost get a set of 4 forged rims for the cost of one OEM, but your not paying, so probably doesnt matter, maybe 700$ in body work and paint, looks like its all cosmetic, but the rims gonna be like 1500 or more. it was pretty specific on where the damage hit tho, didnt hit other panels or anything.

good new is, IMO there is zippo structural damage to anything that matters. I understand the whole, dont want a tainted car, but although your may look worse, you suffered damage to very superficial parts of the car. easily replaced, and once thats done, itll all be good as new. not much chance the frame was hit or anything like that.

easy way to get new rims for your car:
Have the body shop include that expensive *** Ray's OEM wheel in their estimate to the insurance company, but don't have them replace it. Keep the cash when the insurance company sends you the check and buy a whole set of new rims....all this is perfectly legal...this accident could actually work to your favor.

yeah I was gonna say that. youd be a bit short, itd get you like half way there I guess. since youd probably need 4 new tires which would be about another grand, youd likely get about 2000$ for rim and tire.

but you may prefer the track rays.

Your insurance shouldn't change at all. If they try...change companies or threaten to sue. Also, these guys are right...this could end up with you and a new set of rims and a car that looks like new! Just make sure you pick a very good shop!! Also, that is tough to look at...sorry!

Hey dude, I'm really sorry to hear about your Z. That sucks. I live right in the area and I'd like to recommend Rojo Collision in Brooklyn to do the work. They're regarded by the entire Audi community in the Metro area as by far the best custom bodywork/repair work center in the Tri-State. Be sure to tell them you were referred through AudiWorld. They'll take good care of you.

Good luck, man, and sorry. Route 4 sucks. Make sure you press UPS for all the cashola you can get out of them.

A friend of mine had a similar experience with a truck.. The truck driver claimed he never saw his Porsche.. The car was totalled. After having several close calls, I now drive with my headlights on ALL THE TIME.. This makes the car much more visable to trucks and the soccer mom in her SUV.. This is a simple but effective way to prevent accidents from happening..

I also don't think your insurance should go up. UPS should pay for everything - shouldn't affect your insurance co. or your rates at all. If it does, something's wrong.

Hope you get her fixed back in good shape. Glad you're OK.

Wow...wow! Glad you're okay. Hate to see that happen to a fellow DB track. You are very lucky it didn't blow out the tire!
