Question How many people have the A/C "growl"?

I just started noticing this and it doesn't happen every time I turn the A/C on. I know there is a TSB for this issue. Does anyone here know what they do to correct this? The TSB mentions a kit.

Thanks,

Stu E.

I have the same issue, although I would say mine is more of a buzz than a growl. It only happens when the compressor is on, and the pitch seems to change in relation to the engine rpms.

Check out the following website http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr.../tsbsearch.cfm . You can download all the TSB's in pdf format, each lists the procedure and parts in the fix.

The kit description lists the following parts:
Compressor Bracket
Lower Compressor Bracket
Bracket Fixing Bolts
Water Pipe Assembly
Flang Bolt

My question is, is the sound simply an annoyance, or is this symptomatic of something that will cause problems down the line. I'd rather not have them pull out the compressor just for a minor noise if it's not a real problem. Anyone have any other info?

Mike

It's getting real hot here in Tucson. Every time I turn on the A/C, it sounds like vacuum cleaner in the engine bay...very annoying. Asked the dealer about this, and they said it's normal...I guess Nissan just use some cheap compressor.

Default How much HP does having the AC on take

I always wondered about this, and usually turn mine off momentarily when I want to accelerate quickly

can take 10% or so I read somewhere... seems like alot since thatd be like 40hp, and thatd be one HELL of a system... my realistic guess would be no more than 3-5hp.

some cars will cut AC on wide open throttle tho... I dont think the Z does.

It's been around 90 here in Missouri (Misery, I should say) for the past few days, so I've had the A/C on a lot but haven't noticed any noises out of the ordinary. This is at any level -- high, low, medium or anywhere else.
