Anyone know redline speeds?
On one of the videos I watched of a test drive, the tester made an off-the-cuff remark about the redline speeds being about:
1st 30 mph
2nd 60 mph
3rd 90 mph
4th 120 mph
etc.
I know this isn't exact and I also know he didn't test even the 3rd gear redline on the video I saw, which was on city streets with one excursion onto a freeway.
Using the rear-end ratio and the tire circumfrences, I could compute the redline speeds myself, but I'm too lazy. Has anyone done it?
Of course the rev-limiter kicks in at 6600 (I think that's the advertised redline). I've also read that top speed is attained in 5th (on 6MT). I presume you can do better winding out 5th to the rev-limiter than you can in 6th. Anyone know anything on this?

Okay, I did the math
I guess no one else was going to do the math, so I had to overcome my laziness and do it myself. Here's how the redline speeds work out for the 6MT:
Gear Gear Ratio Speed (Mph)
1 3.794 39.0
2 2.324 63.7
3 1.624 91.2
4 1.271 116.5
5 1.000 148.1
6 0.794 186.5
Redline in RPM 6600
Final Drive Ratio 3.538
Tire Circumfrence in inches 83.82135118
Track model with P245/45WR18 rear tires
If anyone knows the ratios for the 5AT, I can plug it into my spreadsheet and do a table for the automatic. Surprisingly, these speeds aren't too far off the reviewer's observation of about 30/60/90 mph for 1st/2nd/3rd.
Now if I could just get my hands on mine (past break-in) to wring it out and prove these numbers! I can't wait.
I think the advertised top speed is 156 mph, so if that is so, and these numbers are correct, then that answers the question about which gear you achieve top speed in -- 6th -- and it's not at the rev limiter. BTW, I'm not inviting or asking any of you new owners to verify these higher gears, especially on the street.

Re: AT ratios
Sorry, I don't know how to line up columns in tables. Here are all the numbers. First I did the 6MT ratios, then redline speeds for both the 18" and 17" wheels, then the ratios for the 5AT, then the redline speeds for the 17" wheels, which are all you can get with the automatic. Thanks for the ratios.
Gear 6MT 18" 17" 5AT 17"
1 3.794 39.0 38.4 3.540 43.4
2 2.324 63.7 62.7 2.264 67.8
3 1.624 91.2 89.7 1.472 104.3
4 1.271 116.5 114.6 1.000 153.5
5 1.000 148.1 145.7 0.834 184.1
6 0.794 186.5 183.5

Final Drive Ratio 5AT: 3.357
