Ack! My shifter is vibrating!
I noticed that my shifter, when I drive, it vibrates alot. It doesn't jerk around or anything but its enough to notice. I just bought the car and dont take it above 3,000 rpm. Im just wondering if its abnormal or not because when I drive other manual cars, they don't vibrate or vibrate very little. Im not sure if this is normal because I havent driven such a powerful sports car as the 350z. I know I should expect some little vibration on the shifter but this is slightly more than little...

I think it's normal. When I traded in my RSX-S to 350Z, first thing I noticed was the shifter vibrated violently, especially when I rev past th 4K RMP.( unlike cable-link shifter in RSX-S(no vibration at all event at 7K RMP). Shifter is one thing I miss most from the RSX-S.

shifter vibration is normal,
It does not indicate a service issue. If you have experience with motor vehicles you will notice that most automotives vibrate at high engine RPM's. This is simply the technical frequency with which the mathimatical properties of the transmission interact with the ionic ratio of shift lever.
It is all quite normal, I assure you.
thank you.

The magazine reviews of the Z mentioned that Nissan intentionally allowed the vibration as a trade-off for better shifting feel vs "comfort". Sports Car magazine raved about the Z, but said the shifter became a "rattlesnake" above 5,000 RPM. My previous manual trans. cars did not have as much vibration. I would have preferred a little less shifter feel!

I don't really belive the Car magazine's opions. I think most of them just try to promote the car like regulare salesman. There are only few things I don't like about the Z(quality, fit and finish, and the shifter). I don't know how vibrating shifter can improve the shifting feel. But the shifter does get better, espeically after the break in period.

rwd, meaning its a direct connection, fwd has a cable.
some rwd cars use lots of rubber between the tranny and the shifter, not to say the tranny isnt vibrating, but its just not getting to the stick. it goes both ways tho, it makes the stick real mushy.
nissan could have easily fixed it, and they did actually, tested both options and decided the vibration wasnt worth the muddy feel.
