Default Sport Compact...

Has anyone read this magazine?

My friend let me borrow the latest issue with the 350Z cover someone posted the other day.

SC managed to get a 14sec quartermile @ 99.2mph and 5.8sec 0-60mph.

The Z they've got is the exact one I'm getting: CS Enthusiast 6spd.

In stock form with 91 Octate fuel, they measured 244HP and 238 lb-ft. With 100 octane, they got 249HP and 240lb-ft.

If this mag. info has been posted already, please delete this thread.

THANx!

Assuming that's at the wheels, (if those numbers are at the engine, there are going to be a whole lot of pissed of Z owners) that is just about the HP we should expect. 244 is 15% HP loss, and 249 is 13.3% loss. But I sure wish they would have measured the HP using 93 Octane which is what most of us will be putting in the car.

while I realize that 244 is a realistic expectation to have, it is still depressing to see the number drop from an impressive 287! but a 14 flat? nice. p.s. anyone know the boxster or boxster s hp at the wheels? just wondering how Porsche does in power loss.

Good numbers!!

That's only 15% drivetrain loss. Very good.

The 90-96 TwinTurbos had approximately 20% drivetrain loss with approximately 240RWHP stock.

Hello carbon fiber driveshaft!

Those times really dont make any sense. How did they get such a slow 0-60 and under 100mph trap speed and still manage to get a 14 sec 1/4? Someone must explain that to me.

Yeah, that's pretty weak. I got a 99.82 mph trap speed in my Accord (~3000-3150lb w/ driver) with my previous 239.1wtq and 192whp setup. I'm guessing that they weren't launching the car well at all. I'd really be curious to see the 60' times that these magazines are getting with the Z...

It doesn't sound like they were driving it very agressively or the conditions were terrible. It seems to me that SCC isnt good at launching a car that isn't front or all wheel drive anyway.. if you look at a lot of their other tests of high horsepower rear wheel drive cars their 1/4 mile times are pretty weak.

I'm really anxious for more people to get their Z's in and take them to the track and see what they get. I bet by the end of next month we will see a bunch of 13 second 1/4 mile times, probably 13.7 or better at 103+ mph.

I think you're right John.... I even had a chance to look at the R&T issue today... WTF? 14.3 @ 100.4mph?

How fast you can to the 1320 isn't everything, but still, that's a pretty disappointing stat... I give a  to R&T for their weak performance results

It seems like when it comes to Nissan, these bastards magically lose their driving skills.

Also weren't they supposed to do an exhaust mod or something in this issue, if so what time did they get after that?

The auto was available on the Enthusiast and Touring models. I would be surprised if SCC tested an auto though.

The 0-60 and 1/4 mile times were when using the 91 octane gas which robbed some power. They dynoed the car at 244 horsepower and 238 lb-ft torque with the 91 octane and 249 horsepower and 240 lb-ft torque with the 100 octane.

They also tested a car the had modded later and turned a 13.9 at 100.3. The mods were interesting because the shorter, wider tires were probably what took the tenth of a second off as the exhaust they tested lost 3 hp!

Overall the articles are worth the read. Not the same cookie cutter articles we have been reading up til now. The testing of the mods seems to indicate the car is engineered nicely right out of the box, but has room for improvement once the tuners have enough development time.

There is also a nice picture of the underbody of the car and the use of undercladding for improving aero is really interesting. The leading edge of the muffler even has its own air dam!

You guys need to work on your comprehension

6spd not auto, if they don't know how to drive they might have actually done better with the auto

Does either the VDC or LSD result in greater or reduced hp loss from the engine to the wheels?

Thanks,

I have the VDC/TCS in my I35 and it's extrememly aggressive on cutting power when you are trying your best Kenney Bernstein impersonation. It would greatly increase 0-60 and 1/4 mile times if you left it on.
