Would you pick up this 03 350z?
Using Edmunds which determines the TMV (true market value) not nada which is super inflated, the private party retail on that car is 17,388. trade in is 15,843. I would offer him about 16,800. Thats a grand more then he will get if he just goes and trades it to the dealer. With the cost of gas now, the economy in general, car sales are suffewring as well as resale value. Ive done a lot of research recently on this, including a thread or 2 since I am trying to sell my wifes 2005 Highlander. If someone were to offer me a 1000 dollars over trade in value, Id probably jump at the chance. GL

But as everyone has stated - offer him less. He is a private party and therefore thinks his z is the ****. He will try to get more because he feels its justified. Make him realize you know more about his car than you do and you have all the haggle room in the world.

+1. He is selling it privately because he got blown out of a dealership. Offer his something like 14,000. Print NADA out, bring a book, all that junk. Ask him why it wasn't traded in. I'm sure you'll discover some truth.

i picked up my 03 touring last october. it had 28K and i paid 17,999 for it. it also came with a nissan vehicle-security plus warranty (about $1000 on top), 3 years/36K miles. i had to get my transmission and clutch replaced as well. just make sure he has the paper work for all the work thats been done, cause im assuming the car is out of warranty.
other than that, my car has been fine, i might have to get the rear-axle clicking fixed, but its not a big deal for me. the new transmission and clutch are perfect, it just sucked that i had to wait over a month for the parts and install.
Good buy IMO, but a little friendly discussion about price never hurt. I have an 03 w/ 63k. Runs like a beast. I Agree with most people who said " all cars have problems". Goodluck!

"buy new".....so when u drive it off the lot, it loses 3-5k in value.
I pd. 20,000 for my 03 Touring 1 yr ago...It had 3,000 miles on it. That was trade-in value at the time.

I picked up my 03 Touring with 51K a month ago for 13500. Maybe you should shop in Nebraska, I talked them down a bit, they were desperate to get rid of it before the snow hit. I also got a full, bumper to bumper, 3 year warranty for another $900.
