Default Getting new 6MT cuz of 3rd gear grind - Question...

My Z has 7800 miles on it and right about 7000 miles my car started to grind really bad at high RPMs when upshifting to 3rd, and almost all the time when downshifting to 3rd unless the RPMs are at idle level.

So to make a long story short I brought it to my dealer, the Service manager went with me for a ride, I drove, was able to produce the grind over and over. He said he will call it into Nissan. Called the day after, said that Nissan will be shipping a new tranny and pins??

What I am wondering is if anybody knows if the tranny will be the entire unit or will it be shipped without the clutch. I just want to know if my new tranny will include a new clutch. It should for all the aggravation I am going through.

Also he claims Nissan said its a new and improved version of the tranny so it shoudl perform slightly better, anybody know if there is any truth to this?

No new clutch.

It feels a lot smoother, not as clunky as the previous one.

I took advantage and changed the flywheel while they had the tranny off and put the Nismo one on.

I think the engine revs a little freer, it is not as light as the others out there but I wasn't sure about them as far as driveability plus I figured Nismo would be safer in the event of future problems even though it is an R Tune part. You hear a little more noise from the tranny when at low speeds in 1 and a little less in 2nd but nothing notcieable once you get going, it just makes you feel funny the first time you hear it, it is like marbles.

The flywheel was 560 plus tax installed.

Thx for the info, I might look into it and see if they would be able to get the FW there by the time my tranny comes in and maybe i'll toss it in.

Well maybe i'll get lucky.. I would like to erase my wear and tear from my 20+ runs at the drag strip. And the one time I had to bang my car into reverse and gas it to avoid an idiot driver and I smelt for the first and only time ever clutch.

So a new clutch would be nice.
