Default What ever happened to NISSAN QUALITY CONTROL B/4 it leaves factory????

Come on Nissan!! This is your "world class sports car" and you have the quality control of a YUGO on it!!!!

We all love our Z's but for a car that is 28-35,000 there should be some real quality control and instead of us have to bring it to the dealer to have it fixed later!!!

I"m sure we would have all paid $1000 more to have very good QC from The faCTORY AND I THOUGHT THE JAPANESE HAD BETTER QC THEN U.S. MAKERS! NOT! Just another way to lower costs!!!!!!!

just a few examples...should a new $30,000 sports car have 1) misalighned body panels..NO! and the gapping between some i've seen is awful!! look at your cars they all have some..
splash gaurds don't fit right..little blemishes in the paint, ETC, ETC, ETC, etc....and that does not even address the MEchanical Issues on the THREAD..So nissan , WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE....GET up to speed with your QC!!!

I haven't had a single mechaniical problem with mine. The fit is perfect, the finish I'd give an 8.

The bottom line is that, while most cars will be built properly, some percentage will have build defects. That's pretty usual. Look at JD Power survey about build quality and Nissan is near the top of the list. Defects-per-car are pretty low with Nissan, on average. Look at other car models and makes and then take a look at Nissan. You'd be surprised at the level of quality. No manufacturing process is perfect and no inspection process is infallible.

Um, no misalighned body panels on my car, and certainly no mechanical problems.

Like Jon said, every car line is going to have a certain number of defects, especially for a first year model. But, for the most part, the people who had/have the bigger problems are being taken care of through Nissan. (Granted, it DID take some not so gentle nudging at first.)

I'm sure a very few cars will make it thru with problems but that's the same on all cars.. My friend who spent over $135K on an MB S-600 has had far more problems than I have had.. In fact I have had "ZERO" problems with my 350Z.

Look at the just released JD Power 3-Year ratings. Nissan is in the top half, Mercedes is in the bottom half. Is Nissan as good as Toyota / Lexus? No. But climbing from near bankruptcy with great new designs, they have done a good job of maintaining reasonable quality. By the way, Honda and Mercedes both showed declines in the most recent surveys of quality and reliability.

Maybe you would be happier with a Skyline or a Ferrari. You got a great product for the price.

i'm not dissagreeing that for the price the car will out handle and outperform most, but they can't spend 2 minutes to make sure the gas tank lid aligns flush with the body panels..many people have had that one...so we have to bend back the tabs to make it look better,,this should have been caught at QC..and my VIN is 117014...so it;s new build in May 03..i have no mechanical probs like the older vins, but the little things missed is just pising me off...i guess i have not bought a new car in a while! my previous 1990 300zx with 165,000 miles had much better Qc when i picked her up!!!
not whining just pointing out the obvious, if you go on the maxima threads you will here more of the same!!!!

were all fanatics here but accept what you got for the price you got and think of the $50,000.00 Beemer or benz with the same misaligned body panels and orange peel and windows that have wind rush and so on and so on........

So far, so good.... of course, mine is still a baby. Delivered 07/02/03.

This is a GREAT car for the price. And as mentioned above, cars costing several times more have just as many 'problems' or are worse!

As far as your comment...quality control of a YUGO...that was definitly uncalled for, dude. I'm not sure what brought on this rant, but you need to relax. It's still just a massed produced car.

BTW, I also own a '00 Maxima SE. My Max will be 4 years old in December --no problems, no warranty work. In fact, its never been back to the dealership for anything. I've never even seen the service department at my dealer!

Peace, bro

I just want to make myself clear..I"m NOT looking to pick a fight with onyone on here.......and we all Love our cars for the most part

The point was to say "hey, they can do better with there QC"...we have all read some real bad things on here and YES it is a mass produced car, but to that end some of the Quality control items are just to big to ignore and should be caught even on mass produced vehicles .... I won't even talk about the paint issues with the z or the 2001-2003 maximas paint....It's crap would be an understement! BUT THAT HAS BEEN DISCUSSED HERE MANY TIMES AND WE KNEW THAT GOING IN, WHEN GOING TO BUY A Z...So i'm not going to even B*TCH about it.... I Accept it.

That all i'm saying.....so now i'm going to start up my Z and enjoy that beautiful exhaust note..

I think Nissan just have different standard of QC. I am totally agree with you after I found out that my Z's rear bumper cannot align correctly, lots of rattle inside the cabin, and the paint just bad. If not because I am so blinded by other quality of the Z, I probably would have return the car and get myself a Honda or Acura.

Default Quality?

I agree. I am not trying to pick a fight, but I am very dissapointed by the quality of my car. I still love my car, but I honestly can't say I will buy another Nissan. The drivetrain is great, but the body is so badly put together on mine that I doubt I would trust nissan with building my next car. It is clear most people have no issues, but you also have to understand that a certain amount of people do have issues, and they are not just whiney. My biggest dissapointment is not the lower quality standards, but the way that Nissan has reacted to them.

If your splashguards aren't on right or your gas tank lid isn't aligned, or even if a gap is uneven between body panels, those are all things that the dealer should check and fix before the car is delivered. So your gripe might be with your dealer and not Nissan.

I know my dealer gave me a report of the things they adjusted/fixed prior to delivery. They replaced a seat end panel that was scratched and also aligned the fuel door.

The final QC for any brand is the dealer!!

The dealer replace my rear bumper, but it's still not align correctly. Next we I am suppose to take my car to the dealer and show it to the Nissan's representative. Don't know what is he going to do? Give me a new car?

Default Quality... lack of

Actually, speaking for myself...

It is actually the body panels that are welded together that bother me. When you open the door, you see how the body panels that meet 3/4 way down are spaced about 3/4" apart and leave a large gap. This is a factory problem not a dealer problem.

I am not talking about the bumper or the fender, but even though they are out of alignment also I would NEVER trust my local dealership with them. So far Nissan dealerships seem to have the same amount of training as Dodge dealerships.
