Default just sat in the first in L. A.s Z

I just got back from Universal Nissan where I signed papers and filled out forms on my new Z and while I was there I got to sit in the supposedly first one to be released in L. A. The lucky guy was asked to delay receiving it so some TV stations could do a story on it. Any way he let me sit in it. It is unbelievably awsome. It is exactly like the one I'm getting next week, Chrome Silver with charcoal interior. For those of you who are getting charcoal you won't believe how nice it looks. Much lighter than I thought it would be and very confortable. I cannot wait for next Saturday. That is my Z day.

Yes, it's the auto tranny. Us old guys that have to travel 42 miles each way to work over 4 Los Angeles freeways in bumper to bumper traffic cannot do the stick thing anymore.

DAMN, after a quiet couple of weeks, Matt comes out swinging again. Although I hate to admit it, I actually kinda agree with him, about being irritated when people claim its hard to drive a stick in traffic. Having driven a stick in Rome (Italy) where I lived for 3 months, and for a much shorter duration in Istanbul, not to mention, New York and D.C., it just aint that hard to drive a standard in traffic.

I have to take mrducks side on this one gang..I drive about the same distance, and the day I spent 1 1/2 hours going up hill at about 5 feet per minute is the day I decided on the auto..I did admit though that the feel of the clutch was very lite and I did have second thoughts after driving the six speed

Matt, robbyn, I have some problems when you say is isn't hard to drive a stick in traffic; for some people it is and you should not make all-inclusive judgments about autos being anti-sports by implication.

I ordered an AT for a very specific reason, I was Bored with driving in traffic with the endless construction on roads that are obsolete when they are finished because the in-migration has overloaded them almost immediately. I also wanted a change, I am curious about the new manumatics and how they will be to drive after driving a manual for the last 25 Years!

I bought my first 4spd in 1965 and I loved it. My last two cars were 5spds which I drove all over Oklahoma in my job for 184,000 miles.

In case you hadn't noticed, we have a lady who has to drive an auto because she was so severely injured in an accident with a drunk driver she can't drive a manual. So don't look down on Z fans because people ordered some of them with ATs. If I find I don't like the AT, I'll get something else, but I won't need or want any advice from sports car experts like you two.

Aww.. that good LA Traffic. Being a brave soul to actually live in downtown la, but work out in the sticks (Simi Valley where AuioPat is located )..I normally get to miss all the traffic fun and laugh at the people on the other side of the freeway. I ordered a 6-speed so I hope to be enjoying my 45 minute commute very soon.

Default thanks to some of you

Well, thank you to those who are not so elitice to think they should decide what I should drive. I had a 1990 300Z and I still have my 1996 300Z which happens to be number 111 of the last 300 made and both were Automatics and I enjoyed the hell our of them.

My post did not make any judgment on people who drove automatics, the sum total of my post is that it is not hard to drive a stick in traffic. I will stand by that statement. I also never offered you "any advice" on what car or transmission you should get, you had not even posted in the thread. But you do seem incredibly DEFENSIVE about driving an automatic. I know you don't "need or want any advice" from me, not do I have any desire to give you any. I will point out, however, that if you are having second thoughts about getting an automatic, that is no reason to lash out at other people here.

Default Dear Matt

I did not join this site to make enemies. I did it to have some fun and participate in the excitment. Your comments were certainly judgemental if not insulting. I'm sorry it "annoys" you that someone would think differantly than you.
Anyway, I do not wish to paticpate any further with this type of negative commuication. You win. You make the last comment if you wish and that will be the end of it as far as I'm concerned. I will not respond to you again.
mrducks (the one who drives the 101east to the 405 north to the 105 east to the 110 south in rush hour traffic and then back. 92 mile round trip bumper to bumper often taking over 1 1/2 hours each way and that does not include rainy days)

Mr. Ducks, don't let Matt get you down, you are new here, so you don't know the Matt history. He has a habit of coming on here, posting something EXTREMELY condescending and then going away for awhile. That is why I hated to agree with him. I can't speak for Matt, but I wasn't trying to tell you what kind of car to get, but I do believe its not difficult to drive a stick in the city. But different strokes . . .

robbyn, I find it curious you would support the stereotyping Matt was spewing. I agree with mrducks statement to Matt, his comments ARE condescending about people who ordered ATs and his posts will remain unread by me also. The object of this forum was to exchange information and have fun doing it.

It is not fun when a person makes a judgment the ATs are OK for old folks but not for him since everyone knows MTs are the "True" sports cars but he will make an exception for "old folks". What a crock.

As for myself, "Defensive" is not relevant here; what is relevant is someone has revived the, "can't be a sports car if its not a stick". I thought that prejudice had been finally expunged from performance car mythology. To see it arise again in a forum whose purpose is to avoid hassles and eliminate arguments of this sort is disturbing to me, Hell yes. I will not participate with someone whose boorish behavior causes me to become angry all over again at narrow-minded people.

p.s. Moderator, feel free to delete this post if you believe it to be harmful to the forum. But, I am angry for the reasons I have stated and I am not the only one who is, witness mrducks. I already have enough **** in my life, I certainly don't need any more. robbyn is kidding himself if he thinks what Matt said was not condescending and he agreed to its veracity, worse for him.

Actually boomer, I agree with you, I think Matt's post was condescending, as I stated in a previous post, Matt's MO is to come in here periodically and post condescending posts. Which is why I didn't like agreeing with him about one point -- which I still believe: it is NOT hard to drive a stick in the city. The rest of his post was total crap and in hindsight I guess I should have mentioned that at the time. That crap about old people is just wrong. (I saw in some magazine how Mario Andretti can still shift gears in milliseconds, something I will never be able to do.)

I also think a sports car is better with a stick than an auto, but I also agree with rocketscientist that sometimes you have to make compromises, and I would rather drive an auto Z then 99% of other cars as manuals. For the final time, I disagree with everything in Matt's post, EXCEPT, it is NOT hard to drive a stick in the city. And like Mr. Ducks before me, I have nothing further to say on this subject.
