well, if you're living in SF i would definitely get an auto... there's nothing wrong with them.. later on if you really want that badboy to run you can always put a higher stall TC and shift kit ((not really an import thing. i know))in there and you'll be blowing away MT doors off... I've driven in SF with my 5spd GT mustang before and my left knee started to hurt the next day.. haha.. again few years ago i would've said get manual, but today's technology makes the gains/losses between AT/MT negligible.

Man, the whole gay thing just derailed this thread, haha.
Seems like the 03 autos are sturdy enough. Thanks all.

I have an '03 auto (about 30K on the clock). It was pretty good as was. I swapped pumpkins with a 6MT. It was one of my favorite upgrades to it, the car got awakened quite a bit. I will be doing a valve body upgrade in about 500 miles. I am also in a process of getting this done:

See the pics in the end. Autos are fast enough as they are and can be modded to be waaay more fun then stock...

Paddle shifter upgrade? cool. I actually like the little manual mode on the auto Z that I checked out today.

I do have my beater 94 LS MT still so if I really miss driving a stick, I'll take that out just for kicks.

Thanks for the input.
I know exactly what you're talking about. I actually avoid driving out in the City at all costs. Toooo many crazy/aggressive drivers out there.

But in case you were wondering, this is what I meant by the paddle shifters:

"Works bell" Makes it? I guess? ...just an idea

I'm not entirely sure. I do believe there is some wiring that goes along with it.. not sure how it all works though.

Haha nice.
Alright guys, I will be picking up the 350Z on Weds.
Trying to figure out the transfer of title since the car has yet been paid off by the seller. So I need to go to her lien holder and get a notarized bill of sale.
So much of a headache....

Default 2003 5 At

I have had mine for 5 years now. Ive fixed it up with a few toys.
3.53 rear gears. Pro torque converter. Stillen VB. modified stillen SC. AAM reflash, 9.5 lb pulley.
Stock 1/4 mile times 14.6.
It now runs 13.09 60 ft times 1.86 on slicks, I hurt the motor and lost 40 psig in # 2 cylinder. It would run quicker if it was running on all 6.
Its a front tire eater, 12000 on the bridgestones. and there feathered.
Rear hatch struts, are shot, terrible radio,
But go around a corner at 20 clicks lift and floor it" hangon for your life as it goes like mad in the auto mode. But if your cruising at 100 km and you floor it the cars a dog and does not down shift. It sucks big times. In the MM mode its a tollay diferent animal.
I change the tranny fluid every 25000 km.
Its about to get a 4.2 GTM enige with a pair of JWT 850 bb.
Im going to leave the stillen hood on it.
It should be a nice little car.

Once I get a carwash, I'll post some pics.
I got the rear axle issue though =(
How bad is it if I was to wait it out for a bit before getting it fixed? Will my car split in half or some crazy stuff like that big issue with the BMW Z3?

IMO why by a z in a auto... a sports car is not made to be auto. The whole poing of having a clutch is for racing (drag racing is not racing... it's driving as fast as you can in a straight line). If it were me I'd get a g35 coupe in auto... more luxurious and you have back seats.

I understand where you are coming from but driving a stick shift car around San Francisco is a pain in the ***. Been driving for 8 years and drove a stick shift car for about 4 years. Didn't really like it because of all of the hills and constant stops on those hills, parking on a steep hill is also pretty crazy around here. It made driving a stick shift car more of a burden then anything. Regarding the whole clutch is for racing, I am not looking to race or auto cross on the Z. I just wanted something a bit nicer then my aging Celica and for the price that I found this Z, it really can't be beaten.

I was actually thinking of getting an Auto G35 Coupe but I can't really find a good priced one around here. They are all the sedan version and I would have to pass on those.

In the end, I love the way the car looks and drives. Stick shift or not, it's still a great car and I felt that it was a pretty good purchase. After fixing this little rear axle clicking and a bit of squeeking, it should be a pretty good car to drive for a bit.
