Merecedes is a 2001 with 29400 miles, original owner. It's the SL500 with the removable hardtop, black exterior with tan leather. I will post up pics. I think it's a beautiful car. Keep in mind I'm only 26 too. If I had the capital I would have bought new but at over $100,000 new, no way!

The paint is far from quality as it scratched easily and had rain stains. Being the car is a 2003 with only 17,800 miles too. All in all I liked the power, looks and handling capacity. I just didn't care for the car quality. I went back to luxury and bought a Mercedes SL500. However, I appreciate everyone's help during the time I owned the Z.

If you read my statement I am not bashing the Z in anyways. I actually liked the power and handling. I just commented on the quality as many of you have to. EX: transmission, window streaking, paint quality, etc. This is all on the forum.

I agree there is to much plastic. The paint job is lousy, the radio is crap, and the seats are lousy, but I like the power and the way the car drives, and it is a looker.

oh and not to mention a Nissan tranny is $4000 from the dealer so Z's are expensive too! I think they are fantastic cars but I just wanted more luxury. Post pics of your Z guys!

errr... is the leather better in a 7 year old Mercedes? Is 7 year old paint not going to have water spots? Is a 7 year old convertible going to have less body squeaks? What about replacing a tranny in the Benz from the dealer? You think it will cost south of $4,000? Good luck.

P.S. What is the whole point of your original post?

You gotta hand it to the guy. He didn't intend to bash in OP, but was trying to bid farewell. Seems like a class act as mentioned above.

Guys...it's not that bad! The worst paint award goes to Chrysler and my former 50k Grand Cherokee SRT8. For that matter...worst plastic ever. I had such issue with it i had the entire interior redone in suede.

And for the price...the Z is a steal. Just add a grand for leather application.

For the record - I don't even own my Z yet. I am buying it soon as my second car to my new G35S Sedan. I'm trying to decide between roadster and coupe - and new or used. But I've been researching and I've driven them all...and in doing so determined exactly what I will change, and planning my mods now.

I mean...a loaded Boxster will cost almost twice as much, and for not that much more performance. Just more leather. heh heh.

And having had Mercs, Bmw's, Audis, Volvo's etc...buying any of those past the 5-6 year mark is asking for trouble if you want hassle free driving. But I do wish him the best. I would suggest a warranty if you can get one. The 01's had top issues Ithink.

Just my .02.

It does happen because my friend was driving a Prelude Si, then one day he switched to a late-model SL500 and now he is driving an AMG55 as a weekender. He is such a friend that he sold me his barely used Nitto tires to me for the price of 1 brand new front tire. Anyway, be warned that repair job cost on a Benz is out of this world. My friend goes to do oil change at the Benz dealership for $60 with free car wash, lol. Even funnier, he gave me props for having a cleaner car than his when we met to change tires, yep that Benz dealership car wash is worth it. Good Luck with your Benz JM!

did you do a test drive or step inside the car before the purchase? you should know by instincts if you like the car or not by the time the test drive was over since you sound so adamant about "quality"
