How fast have you gone?
Got the Z up to 150mph. Got dads Z06 up to 181(did not feel that I should go any faster as the front end felt like it was starting to come off the ground. Both of these runs where done a private air strip
Thats impressive and all that, but I am gona shoot down your lightning but I went mach 2 in a mig-21 training (two seater to train younger pilots)
thats 1500MPH
mig-21 is owned by a collector, the pilot took of and landed while I sat in the trainee's seat and maneuvered around in the air. only bad thing about that mig-21 was it was still being restored so some of the intrusments were out of order, pilot had to do a vfr landing. Took of at an airpark, guy keeps his c172 and his mig21 in his hangar

2. Military jets aren't even allowed to break the sound barrier over the continental US without a reason.
3. The MIG-21 would have a really hard time getting anywhere MACH 2...which BTW is NOT 1500mph. More like 1300mph. If it did, it would have to be very near SL...it would have trouble breaking 1.5 at altitude.
Quit BSing people...
1. Bullcrap. No civilians are breaking the sound barrier legally number one. I don't think that "collector" would risk losing his MIG over something like that.

It is not a fixed number. The speed of sound varies with the altitude the aircraft is at.

I was quoting the listed max speed on the A/C....I'm aware that the speed of sound varies...it also varies with weather conditions...
140 in a '94 honda accord auto (the speed governor kicked in and I thought the tranny was going lol). scary.
120 or so in my '04 G. Felt smooth as satin, but ever really tried to push it though.

How many of these were GPS confirmed? If you're looking at you're Speedo...you really weren't going as fast as it said at these higher quoted speeds. It becomes less accurate b/t 5-10 mph over 140mph.
155 (open road) in my Z and 168 in a C6 convertible (Salt Flats). Both were GPS confirmed.

this thread is pretty worthless and deserves to die IMO. I have gone 152 in one of my 07Z's, and 139 on a 04 Jaguar XJ. Back then i was more stupid and naive than i am today. Speeding tickets are worthless, if you are stupid as I am (moreso was back then) then you will speed. I dont think I learned my lesson by those speeding tickets, it just hit me that i have lost many friends in car accidents and it is very dangerous to do risky thinks like that on public roads. Going on a track is a somewhat different story, its a controlled environment where you dont put other innocent people in danger...
I dont know what it is in people, but everyone wants to go fast - Adrenaline. Its just different to have a thread where people can boast about it. Its dangerous and I thank God he looked out for me when I acted irresponsiblly and stupidly. Life is a priviledge, you shouldnt try to endager it. AND THAT DOESNT MEAN, DONT HAVE FUN. It just means have fun responsibly.

I've done 140 in my old S2000. Hit 155 in a friends 03' Cobra. Both were scary. The top was up in the S2K and was noisy as hell. I thought it was going to come flying off. The Cobra just didn't feel safe.
I've also traveled through copper wire at a constant speed of 186,000 miles per second. It was fun.
