The best thing I can say is go out and try a couple burnouts to get an idea of what point the tires loose grip with the road. This obviously has to be done with the TCS off. After you have that down try accelerateing from a dead stop getting as close to the point of spinning your tires without actually leting them loose grip. Practice Practice Practice.

I'm a bit of a 6MT nubie myself, but I think I can help you with downshifting. It's a little easier if you don't have to brake at the same time. But the trick is still the same. The reason you're feeling that jerking motion when you downshift from 6th at 60 RPM is because the engine RPMs are too slow to match what 5th gear needs, so it jerks trying to get it quickly to the right RPM range. What you need to do is raise the RPMs a bit between shifting from 6th to 5th to compensate. Then it should change smoothly. If you have to brake at the same time the trick is to "heel/toe" it. All this means is that while you have your right foot on the brake, you use your right heel to slide over and nudge up the RPMs.

I agree with SlamMan. It is going to take a lot of practice. Took me about a year to get a perfect launch in my prelude. I just got my Z and I am good with a stick shift, but I too have not tried a quick launch. good question.
