dude, what a money grubbing dealership!

I agree you should walk around your car and take a look, but c-mon...hows he supposed to check if the plastic undertray bolts arent on! thats rediculous....

total failure to service the car correctly by the dealership and they should pay for a new one........no questions asked.....its their failure to reinstall what they removed, thus causing the damage.........

WHy the **** would you take your Z to a "dealer" for an inspection?
You are learning I'll give you that...

Rule 1: Dealers are for warranty (free) work only!
Rule 2: only take your car to a place that has been recommended to you by word of mouth.

+1000 Agreed. If they think your dumb enough, theyll tell ya you need a flux capacitor. I've learned my lesson with my last car (94 POS pontiac grand am), and taking it to pep boys). Since, I have read TONS of info about cars, engines, trannys, etc. so I am at least familiar with the part what they do, and what they can affect and be affected by. The guy I take my car to for major stuff is pretty good, but I always question his advice and do some research to be sure.

Anyways, sorry about the dealership, they love to take your money, but could care less after they cash your check.

Why did you take your sled to the stealership for inspection in the first place? You had to have known that stealership inspections are a scam, that it's just an excuse for them to look over your car and stick on every ticky-tack small thing that's wrong with your car onto the bill.

I took the car back to the dealership today, they looked at it and said
"We didnt even take that part off the car"
"Wait, I was told I need two new $400 dollar tension rods, and your mechanic can tell that without removing the undertray?"
"well maybe the guys who put the body kit on made a mistake"
"That was weeks ago"
"Well I cant be responsible for that"
"Yeah thats what I thought you would say"

In all fairness I think the service manager thought I was referring to the front lip. When I walked out to the car and showed him exactly what the issue was, he offered to fix it if I could leave it there. They called an hour later and said it's taken care of. I'll see the extent of their fixing it tonight.

Ha that's a good question. And the answer is even funnier. I cant get the car into the small shop that inspected it last year without scraping off my front lip now (steep incline at the end of the driveway). I know enough to be careful when pulling in or out, but the less than sane looking mechanic working there might not be so gentle.
I've only been dealing with garages other than my fathers for 3 years since he retired.

Last time I took my X-terra to the dealership for inspection it was in and out in an hour, I thought it was pretty painless, but as usual with the Z there always has to be issues.

Pwnd by myself and my front lip

they really did try to pull one over on you, they must have had a surplus of tension rods in the back lol "yeah you need them"

The only thing fair on the list is the damn windsheild wipers honestly believe it or not Rain X windsheild wipers all 3 of them will run you around $40-$45

Sorry to hear mang, they love to point fingers at the dealership "not me" "i didn't do that"

I'm having a special sale on blinker fluid at my dealer right now if your interested...lol

But it all seriousness, later on I'm going down to my Nissan dealer to cover the parts manager for a while, I'll check the prices on those tension rods, lol and see what they are cause right now I have no idea, I'm thinking sway bar or tie rod ends, or even the links to the sway bar but I have never ever in all my years heard of a tension rod, at least nothing that costs that much money, lol.

Since i got my Z i refuse to take it to the stealership. Nowadays mechanics at big dealers just don't care and assume the public owes them.

Sorry to hear about your ordeal OP.

As a side note, Rain-X wipers last a long time. I've had my Rain-X wipers since Jan 2007 and they still work like new. The car has been kept indoors for the first 9 months and outdoors for about 10 months. Subterranean parking at work. I wouldn't have bought it if there wasn't a rebate for buy 1 get 1 free, which never came through. I'm a believer in the product.

I got the "fixed" car back last night but I was to tired to post pics. I will edit the above post to include some more of the comments. Final pictures of the "fix" are coming tonight, as well as the name of the dealership. I don't care if they are pi$$ed about it but I am being completely honest so t0ugh $hit. If they dont want bad press about how they treat their customers, then maybe they should be such A holes. I'm done with this place for good.

Dealers are jerks. I just bought a waverunner from a Seadoo place and after 10 hours of use you have to bring them back in to get tuned.... but anyways they call me and tell me there is gonna be an extra charge for.....and I swear the guy actually said this to me referring to my waverunner, brake fluid. I immediately responding, there are not brakes on a waverunner, and they guy said hold on I have to ask my manager.....crazy talk.

I would have never bought a Yamaha from a Seadoo dealer. Buy your Yamaha waverunner from Yamaha , a Kawasaki Jet Ski from Kawasaki and your Seadoo from Seadoo (Bombardier)

I understand completely that you're p155ed off about them not putting your car back together properly - that sucks! And trying to get you to have work done that wasn't necessary for the inspection - that's very wrong too.

BUT....am I missing something about the rest of this story? Why have you and everyone else in this thread assumed that you DON'T need the tension rods? Do you know that you don't??

I do feel you pain, I was just curious about that point. Trying to sting you for the $400 service, plus all the other 'services' they wanted you to do (drive belts / throttle body / fuel injector), plus the tension rods when all you wanted was an inspection is plain wrong. But aren't you thinking about getting a second opinion on whether you need the tension rods or not?
