Question Odd Insurance

Not that I'm complaining, but see if this makes sense to anybody. I'm insured with Allstate and apparently I am in good hands. I'm 28, homeowner (well I give the bank a lot of money for 30 years and they let me live here), multi-policy (both car and house) and now have 3 cars, breakdown below:

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited - ~$320/6mo.
1996 Volkswagen Jetta GLS - ~$300/6mo.
2003 350Z Performance Redline - $279.41/6mo.

Anybody have a clue why the insurance is less on a $30K red sports car than on a green 1996 4 cylinder 4hp Jetta? I didn't list it as a weekend driver or anything.

Just Curious,

HokieZ

We had about the same experience. I think it might be a couple of reasons. First, the car is rated very well in all the crash tests, second, it's a Nissan which is typical fairly low down the stolen cars list and third, since it's a new model there isn't any bad history.

Yup, I bet it's the stolen cars factor. (I'm not an expert, this is just my guess.)

Accords and Camrys get stolen a lot more than Corvettes and Mustangs. Probably because there is a much bigger market for the parts.

I'll bet the same applies to the Jetta vs. Z.

What did you tell Allstate is your primary car? That makes a difference. I have a $40,000 Corvette and it's the lowest since it's not my primary car.

When I went for insurance my SpecV I tried to tell her that it's what I'll mainly be driving. She stopped typing and said "you don't want to do that, let's make the S-10 the main driver", it's a '94. Don't know what it would have been the other way but from the way she said it, it wouldn't have been good.

And I don't know about the Volks but that GC is big on the stolen list...

Talk about ODD. I'm looking at getting a "junker" for the winter. well, with the multi car discount I'll get, plus putting the "junker" on as the primary car. My insurance will go DOWN with 2 cars on the policy...

Hmm maybe I'll buy a few MORE cars and see how low I can get the insurance...
