I want to sell my 06 350z as is on ebay and Ive never sold a car before other than trade ins. Dealerships will only give me the normal trade in value and no extra cash for the major mods I have done. It costs too much to remove to get the car back to stock, estimated over 2000 dollars ...
.
Anyone here sell a car on ebay? What form of payment will the buyer give me? I dont think paypal will allow a 20,000+ dollar transaction? Also if the car is sold out of state, all I have to do is have the car shipped via truck correct? Is there any way I can get scammed during the selling process?
Thanks guys

I have sold 4 cars on ebay, bought one on ebay, and got my current 350zR on autotrader. You dont want someone paying that large amount through paypal, as they will take 3% of it which is a lot when you are talking about a 20,000 plus car. I usually make the buyer do a $500 deposit through paypal and then do the rest as a cashier check. Just verify with your bank that the cashier check is good before you hand over the keys. As far as shipping goes the buyer should be responsible for that, you may have to take it to a shipping yard. I have always had the customer come pick up the car. Usually the customer sends me the check in advance and once it clears there should be no way to get scammed. Hope that helps and just let me know if you have any other questions.
I have done a number of significant vehicle transactions as lgear080
on ebay. My feedback and prior sales speak for themselves. I agree with
vertz. Only take a VERY small amt of money through paypal. The balance
should be delivered within 72 hours via wire transfer. There are also some
issues with title and sale format that you can use my current offering to
avoid. Pictures are your most valuable sales tool. Do you have any more
questions?

I think that selling the car face to face is a much better proposition if you can do it.
You can take a cashiers check. The key is to call the bank that issued it when you receive it. The number will be right on the check. They can tell you if it was a check that they issued. If so, it is good and you don't have to worry about it.
Keep in mind from the buyers standpoint that they want to be sure that they get a clean title. If there is a lien on the car, they want to be assured that it is going to get paid off. When I purchased a car with a lien on it, I had the seller get a cashiers check made out to the lien holder and physically watched him mail it.

If you are still financing a car, and if they are going to be financing your car. Their lender will contact your lender and pay off, and you will keep the difference upon the agreed your vehicle price.
