350Z, Mustang, Corvette.......
Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum and new to the Z. I thought I'd join the fray and offer my 2 cents, since in the last year, I've owned all 3 of the cars in this title. 2008 Corvette 6sp, 2007 Mustang 6sp, and as of about 2 weeks ago, a 2006 350z 6sp.
I'll say right off that the Corvette was my absolute favorite for obvious reason, retarded power and handling. But thats comparing apples and oranges and not a fair fight so lets go to the Z and the Mustang.
I have been a mustang man my entire life. The only body style I haven't owned has been the New Edge (99-04). In one thread a guy mentioned how the 350z beats a GT stock for stock. He must have been mentioning the new edge mustangs cause I drove one and was not impressed. The 2005+ Mustangs though are a whole new animal.
At first I was a little offended when this guy said the Z's would beat the GT, I thought he was crazy, but then like many have said it depends on how you like to drive and if you track the car or not. I personally have never taken a car to the track or strip. I've just always loved the flat out torque and thrill you get from hammering down on that V8, throw in a CAI and a tuner, and even some lowering springs and you have yourself an amazing little car. BUT, thats just the thing, I had added all those things to my car to make it a blast to drive.
Lets talk straight out of the box Mustang GT and a 350z. I must say, I was quite shocked when I first took the Z out for a test drive. I didn't feel it was the quickest car I had driven ( test drove Mustang, and a Charger). Neither was it the most comfortable car. I'm 6'2 and 215lbs, so its a little cramped. BUT THERE WAS JUST SOMETHING about that car. I realized it the instant I took the loop to get on the highway and noticed how well it cornered. I loved how smooth the engine felt. My first impression was "this is just a nice sweet little ride." Never really thought I would buy it.
Slept on it that night and realized, this Z was a pretty special car. It corners as well as my vette did, just without the power, corners a LOT better than my stock mustangs have, just realized that straight out of the box and at this price point, the 350z is actually the best car out there as far as pure driving experience goes, IMHO. I bought my Red 2006 350z over the charger and Mustang that I was looking at and haven't regretted it since. I could not do a thing to it and be happy with what it is.............but what fun is that right?

I've raced several friends of mine that have stock new body style mustangs (at the track) and been extremely even or pulled ahead depending on my launch. And I'm a crappy drag racer, more of an autocrosser.

lol, I just was trying to say I'm impressed with the Z, I guess you could have called me a "hater" in the passed, but until you drive one, you don't really know what its all about.

Fletch, did you race stock against stock? Or is all that stuff on your signature on your car when you were racing. I was just trying to talk about straight off the lot performance and the numbers you see posted in magazines and all that stuff.
MAYBE i'M WRONG (it happens), but if you take 2 drivers of equal skill, the two stock cars, a mustang GT is going to win that one is it not?

REALLY??!! I'm not doubting you that just surprises me. Just driving the 2 around town, it just really feels like the mustang has more in it than the Z. I agree 100% with you on the autocross. Like I said, I'm very impressed with overall qualities of the car.
You guys are going to make me turn my back forever on my mustangs.

This thread seems ok for the moment. If it gets out of hand, I will close it.

Its all good Mr. Moderator man, I just got my Z a couple weeks ago and am getting educated. I've evidently been holding my mustangs in a little too high of a regard. Just trying to learn.

LOL, Bryan.....I don't have them all at the same time, had the mustang first, son passed away last November, so I did what any reasonable person would do to cope, I bought a Corvette. My wife and I decided to build a house, so the Vette lost and then thats where the 350z comes in.

I had a 64 convertible vette back in college and boy did I miss that car. Now I have my 05 Z 6mt and like you said...The 350Z is just a whole different car. I have no idea why I waited so long to get mine
