Default Ack! My car is acting erratic!

I think its probably just my car, but does anyone's 350 ever act 'inconsistent' at times? For example, most times when I drive it, I can feel the full throttle and torque of the car. It feels like im driving a muscle car. But sometimes, my car becomes very 'smooth' to drive, almost like a luxury car and it loses that 'muscle' car quality to it. It almost feels like its become sluggish and acceleration time has increased. What the heck is up with my car? Is it schizophrenic?

Try turning your AC off. AC makes a huge difference in the way the car accelerates.

yea...i thought it might have been that...but i dont really put on the ac much....and these inconsistencies dont usually correlate with whether or not my ac is on...

I have never noticed anything like this. I have the AC on constantly, and I never have a problem with the power (the compressor turns off that full throttle)

Sometimes a slower feeling car may be due to heat soak.....if you drive your car for a while and then shut it off all of the heat from the engine just sits in the engine compartment...there is no moving air going through the radiator, no coolant being moved through the engine since it is off, and no air moving through the intake or intake manifold. All of this lets the intake manifold absorb alot of heat which in turn will give you poor performance. I know out here in the AZ summer everyones car feels so slow no matter what...when outside ambient air temp is in the 110+ range you will loose power. Cant wait for the winter to come around.

Isn't one reason because of the adaptive ecu?

I have that problem as well, today I have it with the 350 its feels so uninspired since I took it out of the garage. Saturday I had the same problem with my 03 Max it just felt tired. It has been 100 plus for a few days here although I tried it with them both with the AC off for a few minutes and they still felt tired/sluggish.

Is your Z a male Z or a female Z?

Hmmmm.....

You guys have a knock sensor on those cars? The knock sensor on the SpecV sentra does the same thing. It's a little touchy and some guys ground it or insulate it and then just use premium gas and don't push it when it gets really hot outside. It just retards the timing a little when it hears pinging, and leaves the performance a little erratic at times. If it has one I would imagine that it would be the same sensor, wiring and module with just a modified band-pass filter adjusted to better "hear" the sound of a VQ35 pinging.

Maybe I'm wrong but it sure sounds like the knock sensor symptoms.

I saw the Stillen video with there super charger and they said the Z had a big problem with heat affecting the performance of the car while tuning. They said the car is very heat sensitive. I’ve noticed the same problem with my car. If I take it out, get it nice and hot and then let it set in the garage for awhile, then take it out again its real sluggish. But if it’s the first time I take it out, even in the 3 o’clock heat it runs good.

I think that he meant that if your Z is female, then that is the reason why it is moody. Just an interpretation.
