Default What will it take to compare to a 500hp Evo8?

I currently have a heavily modified Evo 8 which has just under 500hp at the wheels and runs a low 11 second 1/4 mile. Im thinking about switching over to a Z. What would it take in order to make the Z comparable to the Evo? Im not looking for a set up where i would be stretching the limits to get it there.

How much power can the Stock motor handle? I know its much larger than the Evo's, but can it handle the same amount of power before needing forged internals? Also, what is a rough estimate for the cost of building a 350z that would run right with my Evo?

Thank you all in advance, i know how annoying newbies can be. I was once a newbie with dsms, as well as Evos. I will do some searching, but I have a very busy schedual right now with schooling and work, so if anyone would take the time to assist in answering my questions, i would GREATLY appreciate it

Thank you all

Oh im looking to do this set up on regular street tires, a daily driven car.

Just to give a little more info about the evo, its tuned for 28psi with Meth injection. My trap speeds are about 125mph.

To see 11's you're almost definitely going to have to do a motor build. I'd say build and TT making a little more than you have in your Evo will do. I'm pretty sure Farrell's supercars in PA has a blue 350z making 560whp and it ran high tens.

The HR (07+) can hold a good bit more power on a stock block than the DE's (03-06) but to keep up with your evo, you going to need to drop some serious dough.

How much money would you estimate, leaving out the cost of the actual car?

Ture, HR can handle more power, although I think you would still have to build the HR to run that much power safely.

Well I know a twin turbo for a Z costs about $7,500 plus labor ($2,500). This excludes other parts you're going to need like a new radiator, clutch, flywheel, etc. This also excludes getting your engine rebuilt of course. Probably looking at about $20,000 or so? Other people could probably give you a better idea than I can.

What's wrong with the Evo by the way?

haha

You will enjoy this...

A greddy TT setup installed runs around 15K with some little options here and there. That might get you around 400 whp with an aggressive tune. Then you build. Im guessing around idk ballpark 10-15K with install. Then a new engine management, HKS F-Con is pretty solid and thats around 3K and dont forget each time you tune is around $400-$600.

Correct me if im wrong but around 30K would be a safe bet.

Or you could go my route and save up for an STS rear mount and Cin Motorsports and doing turnkey installed for under 7K and that puts down around 360-380 wheel.

Oh yeah... clutch + fly + install = 1K

That was a fun one

WOW z's are expensive to mod.lol.
Im so glad i didnt have to do a built motor in my evo. It just confuses me a little that the Z engines are bigger, yet cant handle as much power stock. But i guess they were designed differently. I can only imagine the difference in turbo lag of a Z vs evo. My evo spools up at 4,000 with the bb 50 trim.

So pretty much Im looking at, AT LEAST $30k to get a 350z to run with the evo?
Now on the highway, lets say 50-170mph, a z with the same power to weight ratio as an evo, would still beat the evo at those speeds, correct? due to the gearing? Or is the Z more of a bottom end car?

Please excuse my ignorance. I read up on some of the stickies in the FI section and will continue to read up. Thank you all for your help so far

keep the EVO and save up some serious dough to get a Z and then build it.

with 30k you will reach 750whp if you know where to look. Google up 350z's from Puerto Rico and you'll find some good stuff.

30k is an easy estimate. I spent about 15k on my stock block build which included some extra items, like clutch/flywheel. gauges, downpipes w/dumps, exhaust, etc. You can get a shortblock built with labor for around 8k installed, plus a stand alone system like the HKS Fcon or Haltech for about 2500-3k installed and tuned.

What does your Evo weigh? less than 500whp trapping 125 is solid

Low 11's on street tires means your rolling on drag radials at least.

To do it reliably your into a $20+K build

Ughh

Rays car ran 11.2 @ 600whp but he was having traction issues, not a clean run.

His car now makes 863whp, no times on that yet...and PFS is in MD! You got your facts all twisted lol...

Like everyone said, it's NOT cheap to get the Z up to that level.

What's your reasons for wanting to switch to the Z?
