Later for now...selling the Z to pay for school.
I've finally decided to do it. I have to sell the Z.
I was recently accepted into a Graduate Master's Degree program at UC Berkeley, and unfortunately they charge an arm and a leg for tuition...almost $15,500 per semester to give you an idea. I'd probably have to trade in my Z to them just to pay for one semester...and then there's the issue of books...ugh.
I've driven my Z for close to a year now and didn't expect to have to sell it so soon. Unfortunately needs do change eventually, and right now my career and future are a lot more important than owning a nice car. I was thinking of selling it private party then using the cash to pay for school, and the leftovers to buy a small motorcycle, beater car, or even a scooter. Just something to putt around town in that gets excellent mileage.
So yeah, this is goodbye depending on how long it takes to sell the Z. I'm going to miss being a part of this community...and you might miss me and all 190 of my posts
Take care and drive safe everybody.

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments...and yes I'm working toward a Master's in Finance actually.
I currently have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and figure that the finance background will do a lot to add to it.
That internship idea sounds very useful right now. I think I'll look into the Career Center at school and see if they can offer any opportunities like that. At this point I could use all the help I can get.

Does your employer do tuition reimbursement? for that kinda scratch it might be worth making a switch somewhere. One of the bigger things keeping me at LM is that theyre putting out alot of education money which is essentially sooo much more in your pocket.
Congrats at school! Berks is hard to get into. And sorry to hear about your car. I was planning to sell my car to have enough funds at UCI but then I got a full scholarship (thank community college for that!) and was able to keep my car.
Nevertheless good luck with your masters!

He made a good decision. It is better to sell the Z to pay for education. Best thing to do is get rid of a depreciating asset, buy something cheap and used to get you through school.
Thanks again everyone! And yeah I believe I'll still be lurking around since I've met a lot of good folks here
I really do hope the economy goes up...the next President will have a lot to do to fix that. I hope whoever gets elected does a good job getting the US and even the rest of the world on track. I think the fact that I'm paying over $15K a semester is testament to how pathetic things are nowadays...granted Berkeley has always been an expensive school to begin with...
I've found quite a few good deals on used Hondas I've been looking at recently, although I'm leaning towards the scooter route. 70 MPG, enough power for my city commuting needs, I'd be allowed to use one to drive between lanes in CA, and I'd never have to worry about finding parking...or at least not nearly as much as I did with a car

Yeah it was really a toss-up between the two...but now that you mention it safety has me leaning more towards a beater car now that I really think about it. An education is no good if I can't survive school
