Caused I just checked with my uncle who got his 2002 S2000 brand new in august of last year....2 months before me, and his renewal is only $200+. What the hell???
I think the 3x starts after 10/01/03. So any car that need renewal after that date it's about 2% of the blue book or ~3x for us new car owners...
Hope GD get recall soon so Arnold can drop this stupid fee. I'm sure he has more then enough vehicles that he doesn't want to pay the 2% blue book... imagine 2% blue book for a Hummer H1.... ~$100,000k+ x 2% = ~$2000+ for registration...
with both registration renewal and insurance renewal coming up, there goes my new wheels... I guess I'll have to stay stock for a while....

Grey Davis did not raise the registration to help pay for the defecit. When the rates were rolled back there was a clause in the legislation that returned the rate to THEIR ORIGINAL amounts if the state suffered from a deficit. If you look at registration paperwork (prior to when the rates returned to normal), it states right on it that there is a fee rebate (or some such wording). The fact that Davis is being blamed for "raising" the registration fees is simply his opponents trying to blame him for as much as they can to fuel the recall election.
But the fact that he did implement the increase instead of cutting wasteful government spending is what bothers me. He took the easy road and screwed the public again instead of cutting costs.
