Once the car vin shows up in the dealer inventory how far away is the car typically from being in the hands of the owner?

Is it a week or a couple days (2-3 days)??

 

Excellent question! I would really like to know the answer to this too.

 

This is speculation based on conversations with my dealer, so don't flame me if it turns out to be wrong.

The VIN shows up on their inventory when they get a "truck" date". I think this means the car has been scheduled to be loaded on a specific truck on a specific date. If the VIN is entered when this routing decision made, or when the car actually gets loaded I don't know.

So, depending on how far away you are from the port of entry, and how many stops the truck makes, you can sort of figue out when the car will be there.

The dealerships don't get much more info that this, and ususally don't know when the car will show up until they see it on a trailer in front of their lots.
