Default DTE gauge question?

I bought my 6 speed enthu a month ago and I was noticing that the last two times i filled up for gas it has said abut 300-320 miles DTE compared to when i first bought the car the first few times when i refilled to top it said 400-450 miles dte......im not sure why it does this. I also notice that last week when it said 300 miles after i refilled the tank it seemed to stay around 300 miles for 100 miles (300+100=400) so if i was driving it would stay at 300 or increase every so often instead of decrease....is there something wrong with my gauge or is this normal?

It tries to figure out how much gas there is and based upon your current MPG figures out how many miles you have left. So it really depends on if you're driving the car hard or not at that time.

Yup, and highway/city will also make a big difference.
