Hey! So I was recently rear-ended (thanksgiving night) by a drunk driver in my 2004 ZR. Im a mechanic/body man, and concluded I could repair the damage myself for under $1k. The insurance company quoted me damage over $6k. At this point I started looking for rims, 4.08 gears, suspension, a nismo body kit, and a complete carbon fiber re-do (hood, tonneau, and trunk). After coming up from FL to my NJ residence, I had received a few letters in the mail from the dealership I purchased my car from stating that they will buy my car back for roughly $3k over KBB value. Deal ends 12-31-08

After talking to the sales rep and stating I ONLY would trade for the 370z, he says he will extend the deal until their release. Trade in value on my car is around $15k + $3k bonus= $17-18K... Leaving me with a 370z sport package for ($33k-$18) a mere $15-$20k. Effectivly lowering my monthly payment DRASTICALLY and upgrading 6yrs in car age

But I love my ZR

So what would you prefer? A nicely modded ZR or a stock w/ sport package 2010 370z?

After writing this, I suppose I could return my ZR to stock and use the left over insurance money to have a nicely modded 370z

 

I would go for the 370z personally. You can't go wrong with either decision - if you can really repair for 1k and have 5k to sit on afterwards that is sweet.

 

Thats a tough one. I love the convertible and adding the extras would make it a great ride. If you had F/I in the future then I would say keep the convertible.

The 370z would be awesome to have though especially if you could have low monthly payments on one. I would have to see them in person and drive one to really make a good decision.

When you say you're going to wait for 2010, do you mean you're waiting for the roadster version?

 

Subjective question, so it more matters what you prefer: Spending about the same amount of money to have a very personalized and tricked out older model, or a completely stock but brand new one.

Performance and reliability-wise, trading in is probably the better bet.

 

370z, as soon as those bad boys are released, the value of your 04 is gonna drop like a sack of idahos.

 

Get the 370Z. With low monthly payments you will be able to slowly mod the Z. Like you said though, take it in to the dealer completely stock and sell your parts for extra cash. Whatever you make on from the parts save for 370Z mods. Goodluck!

--By 2010, i meant since the 370 comes out in jan, it should be considered a 2010 model, no? BUT I will consider trading for the ZR when I see a pic with the top up

-- I saw the red, yellow, and blue models on a truck while I was driving back up to NJ from FL... Im not sure if I was excited because it was so random or because I liked the way they looked lol. I was going about 80 mph in my rental impala so I didnt get to get that good of a look

I would go with the 370Z. The ZR's really not my cup of tea but that's beside the point. You're trading in a Z that's been in an accident, and someone's willing to take it for what it's worth. On top of that, you'll get credit on the newer, faster model! Sure your ZR was modded, but remember that most of the time, you'll never get your money back when selling a car. I say go with the Z34.....good luck!

so wait, if you are getting 18k for your trade in, and you are getting a 33k car, wouldnt that be 15k for sure, or less with less options?

their ultimate goal is to get you into the dealership with that sort of offer, make sure they aren't deceiving you with bad numbers.

 

the roadster is even uglier than the 370, get the 370z.

 

Before you make any decisions, work the REAL numbers with the dealer. I would not be surprised that your estimates are more optimistic than what they have in mind. if your numbers are acceptable to them, I'd go 370Z.

 

The 370Z is the logical play here. You offload a damaged car, one that will surely loose further value once the 370 comes out in January.

Lighter, Faster, Lower, less weight, upgraded interior, Rev Match, Brakes, Ride Quality etc. etc.

Going F/I is great but your applying all tha stress on an older engine and several of the projects produce nagging side issues (temp, idle revs etc.) so I'd go with the 370

I guess the last question is, what color??? Lol, I had it down to either black or white. Every car Ive had has been silver so I'm ready to drop that trend.

 

I personally think the white Z's are beautiful. Ultimately you will get what YOU like, not what we say, right?

 

LOL we'll see... I'm basing my decision on the fact that Ive always wanted gold rims. I planned on getting a white 350 when I 1st purchased it, but all that was available was a silver ZR and it had navi so I was sold. I'm not sure if I should get the white I wanted before or the black I always found so attractive. Both should look good with the gold vsxx's I plan on getting (its rumored you can fit a 20x12 back there no problem/rolling )

 

I'd say go with the 370 also BUT see if the dealer will quote you a price. I doubt they will discount so you're looking at full retail. Also, I'm sure some dealers will be selling over retail due to the newness, the great reviews, etc.
Try to nail them down if you can.
