Default Damn Seatbelts

Does anyone els think that the seatbelts in the 350z are stupid and annoying and kinda painfull if you drive long enough. I know that there was thread about this already, but there was never a solution.

i read that thread. some people suggested "seat belt adjusters", but they were generally very ugly. i just have a set of those nismo seat belt cushion things on my belts and they give me enough room so that the belt doesn't rub on my neck, which is generally the biggest complaints about the z belts.

Mine don't really bother me during longer trips. My biggest complaint is that they seem to lock at the most inopportune time (i.e. I am trying to changes lanes while accelerating and I cannot lean forward to look at the drivers side mirror).

Happens to me too! Why does it do that! Stupid nissan seat belts, they are going to cause an accident and then unlock at the point of impact

Default Seat Belt Adjusters

I had the same problem with my seat belts. The belt kept riding up the side of my neck and chafing me really bad. Nissan should have made the pillar mount adjustable!

I fixed it with $2.50 solution from the local Pep Boys. They are called seat belt adjusters. They are basically clips used to move the shoulder belt further to the side away from your neck. They are small and hardly noticeable. They can be installed in less than a minute and they don't compromise the safety of the seat belts. I tried seat belt pads but they didn't work for me. The belt still rode into my neck. Besides, most of them look foo foo or rice.

It isn't just Nissans that do this...my last car ('00 BMW Z3) was much worse than the Z at this.

Question possible solution

You guys with problems need to go to see a 2004 350Z. Nissan redesigned the seat belt where it exits the side panel. There is now a new plastic "standoff" that essentially moves the seatbelt takeoff point further forward. I sat in an 04 coupe in the showroom and fastened the seatbelt to find that it did not chafe my neck and collarbone like my 03 does. 100% improvement - bravo Nissan! If anyone finds that this part number from the parts counter is available, holler at us!

They attach to the seat belt by the buckle. When they are on the belt they will slide with or close to the buckle. The adjusters are about the same size as the buckle. The shoulder belt will go into the clip near the buckle, you should be able to adjust the shoulder belt in and out to approximately 5 or 6 inches. Believe me, they helped alot.

I haven't seen it yet, but if the standoff that ChinaClipper is talking is available from Nissan that would be another way to go. If any knows, tell us about it.

I prefer to drive without my seatbelt. It's much safer that way. Also, if I'm involved in an accident, I will be thrown clear of the car and will be less likely to sustain any life-threatening injuries.

But then, of course, I am personally such a good driver that there is absolutely no way I will ever be involved in an accident. Especially when I'm driving close to home. Or when I'm tired.

I might also remove my airbags and sell them to somebody. I hear they can go for a lot of money.

I just received my copy of THE RUN DVD and in it was a small accessories catalog. Kind of funny getting it a few days after you find out the car is totalled. I don't know where it got to, but inside it you can buy the seatbelt adjusters, they are only like 25 bucks straight from Nissan USA...
