Looking to get a Z
What's goin' on guys...I am currently in the market for getting a new car. Right now I have an '00 Celica and I am just tired of a bunch of rinky dink problems I have been having with it and I want to get rid of it. So that brings me to the Z. I loved the body ever since I layed eyes on it, but I don't know too much about the engine and the different trim lines. Any suggestions would be a great help. Thanks.
We are happy to help and welcome to the best source of Z information on the net.
First, do some searches. It is amazing what you can learn from previous posts. In particular, search the "General" forum because most people post these types of questions here.
Second, go to www.nissanusa.com to learn about the trim levels. I will give you a quick overview. The trim levels are base, enthusiest, performance, touring and track. Base is basically stripped. Enthusiest adds HID headlights, traction control, and a limited slip differential (ALL OF THESE are worth the money). Performance adds 18" rims, tire pressure sensors, and I believe VDC (more advanced traction control). Touring is the same as performance, but with leather, bose stereo, power seats, and the other confort items. Track is the same as performance, but adds ultra-light weight forged rims by Rays and track capable brakes by Brembo, but it loses all the interior items compared to the touring model.
The engine is amazing. First, it will stomp a celica. It produces 287 HP at the crank and most are seeing around 240-250 at the wheel. In addition, the VQ series of engines (VQ30DE, VQ30DETT, VQ35DE) have been in the top ten for 11 (?) years in a row. Add to this the 6-speed manual and you have one wicked package.
Now, mods. A year ago they were hard to find. However, we now have a choice of 15+ exhaust systems, 5+ intake systems, 3 intake plenums, 2 supercharger packages, crank pullies, 5+ flywheels, 5+ clutches, and many others. By spring of next year, we should have access to no less than 2 turbo systems. Of course, none of this comes with the car. However, you can learn about these items here and even purchase them.
One more thing to note. This is my favorite feature because it just screams performance (but actually does not do much): CARBON FIBER DRIVE SHAFT.
At any rate, do some research. Most people will be happier if you ask targeted questions that have not been asked before. This site is already loaded with answers, so have a look around.
Cheers.

not so sure i agree with you about the carbon fiber drive shaft, though. reducing the spinning weight is a very nice thing, and it's one less part you have to optimize. i'm sure this subject has been discussed to death on this board already.
