I have thought about getting Sirius. I listen to it all day at work and like them better. If I do get it I will put the tuner and all in the empty sub hatch space and the controller in the navi console. The only problem is the ugly XM/Sirius antenna. I think I am waiting until a better looking antenna is released (which I hear is soon).

Good! The antenna is keeping me from getting it too.

Radio SUCKS.

Satellite radio just sucks more clearly and with wider availability.

But, I have seen custom installs where the antenna is reduced to a barely-noticeable nub, painted to match the car.

I was also thinking of getting satellite radio, but wasn't sure about mounting the antenna. nizl, why do you say satellite radio sucks? Don't they have lots of music choices, many channels with no ads, and good sound quality? That would be good, for me.

Bigger problems than the antenna.

Take that $200-$300 and buy yourself a bunch of used cd's for "commercial free" music.

I've been using XM for the last two months in my Dodge Avenger...and I am hooked...i love it...I have the antenna in my rear window and it works like a charm. I'm definately planning on moving my XM tuner to my Z....i'm planning on mounting the antenna under the rear hatch glass....either on top of my Sub Box....or make a shelf for it off the strut bar.

XM Rocks!

It would have been nice if Nissan had offered it on the Z, they will offer it on the 2003 Pathfinders and Muranos and half will have XM and half will have Sirius. If you are interested I can scan and post the two pages where it is discussed in the Nissan Sales magazine.

Maybe I'm being too cynical... at the end of the day, it's just some t00l on the other end choosing what you should listen to. They still have announcers and some ads.

I like to choose my own music, hence the 6-10 CD changers...

I also prefer to listen to albums all the way thru...

I was looking at an XM myself. The antenna really wasn't that bad. It was just this little lump about 2 inches high and about 3-4 inches square. I didn't realize you could mount it INSIDE the car. If this is feasible that would be even better. Anyone else hear that you can do this?

Default Antenna can be posted inside

I went to a HiFi Buys in Atlanta recently and spoke to the GM there.

He stated that they do custom installs for XM all the time...

Reason #1: No one likes the antenna.

He has it in his pickup truck and has it on the dash (you can barely see it) and he said it works fine.

He's seen many pictures of the Z and said that he thinks that the antenna would work fine on the strut (on the side, not directly on the metal).

He offered me a 100% guarantee... I guess I have nothing to lose.

Being a satellite receiver you would think that, like a dish, all you would need is a clear "view" of the sky. If you mounted it under the rear glass, I would think it would work.

Yes you can mount the antenna inside your car. I've had my antenna in my back window for 2 months now. And it works fine....as long as it's under glass...the hatch as a nice almost horizontal angle to it....i'm sure if you get the antenna near the glass on a shelf attached to the Strut it will work great....many other people have their antenna inside their cars. Go to
http://www.clubxm.com

for pictures of other installs w/ antennas inside peoples car.
