Default Rear View Mirror options...

It seems as though there are 3 different mirrors:

1) Base model mirror.
2) All other model mirror (includes homelink and auto-dimming)
3) Accessory mirror (includes homelink, auto-dimming and compass)

My question is are #2 and #3 really the same? I mean, does the non-base mirror have a compass?

If not, then #3 is a rip-off (for non-base people) at $270 (per courtesy parts). $270 for a compass? Come on nissan.

Any input?

Michael

well i just found this on another courtesy page: (http://www.courtesyparts.com/350z/delivery.html)

7) OPTIONAL AUTO DIMMING REARVIEW MIRROR: If your 350Z is equipped with the optional auto dimming mirror, the compass may require calibration. Refer to the instructions included with the mirror on how to calibrate the mirror for the zone where the Z will be operated.

Seems like it does come with a compass?

If it does, no one who has their car has mentioned it. You would think it would be pretty obvious. I really don't think it is on any car ordered. Probably just an aftermarket add on option.

I asked my dealer about the compass issue and he seems to think that early production models with the homelink and auto-dimming mirror will not have a compass, but later production models will all have the compass. He did not know when the switchover would occur.

There's nothing about a compass in the owner's manual either so right now it doesn't exist.

Mine has the auto-link (which is now happily operating my garage door), but no compass. When I read the note on calibrating the compass, I got a bit excited, because I get lost easily. But no such luck. I would buy it as an accessory, but not for $270.

I'm getting the Nav system, so I don't need a compass and hope it doesn't have one taking up room in the rearview mirror.

D: Very true! In these first few weeks, driving aimlessly and finding new roads I wouldn't have normally been to will actually be a bonus! For once, my poor sense of direction pays off!
