Funny I'm shopping for insurance ATM. I'm in cali getting around 150-180 for full coverage on the z and liab. on my 240sx. So far I tried The General(these guys wanted 380 a mo, way outta line), AAA, Mercury...and Geico. To my surprise Geico was the cheapest at ~$150. Anyone have recommendations whom else to try?
To OP shop around just to see the whole pictures. Frankly tho the rates won't be much cheaper...

I'm a seventeen year old male, in FL.
I've called unitrin, trust way, and progressive. Out of those three the cheapest is 465.13 a month, which is outrageous.
I can afford 416.13 a month but thats quite the jump from 250.00 with my envoy.
So my question for y'all (please don't flame) is if you guys know somewhere I can find it a little cheaper.

$400/month for insurance is just not worth it being 17. I'd put that money for college funds instead. Or you can save $4800 a year/$19200 until you're 21 and buy a brand spanking new car on your birthday, get plastered at a bar and get a DUI. Your choice.

Allstate, 416.12 a month
I pay $82 a month ($984 a year) for my 08 Avalanche and 02 Maxima (full coverage) and $86 a year on my R-1!

Get your coverage under one of your parent's ploicies, and then pay your portion. Being covered as a secondary driver under an existing parent's policy will definitely cost less than then being covered under a seperate "youthful driver" policy.

No offense, kid, but the Z isn't really intended for 17-year-old's. For a lot of reasons. That's why insurance companies are so expensive for under-21. It's called "actuaries" - look it up.
Get a reasonably sporty car (xB is a good suggestion, though there are certainly a lot of others). Save your cash, go to a good college, and get a Z when you are 21 or older.
PS - saying your old man is making you "pay your own way" while you are 17 and drive an Envoy? When I was 17, I was driving an old, POS Chevy Nova that I paid for, WHILE saving for college. The old Nova got me through two years of college. An old pontiac station wagon, an old Malibu (with rust-hole access to the trunk) and an old Olds Cutlass got me through the rest. Because I was paying for the car, the college, an apartment, electricity...
Paying "your own way" after receiving an Envoy when your 17 may be the least (yet best) thing your old man can do for you. Drive it well, treat it well, spend your money wisely. The rewards come AFTER they're earned, not before.
This is the best advice.

like many otheres said if you put the insurance under your pops name and you be the secondary driveer and if you are a full time student and have good grades theres a discount for that. itll be alot cheaper
I pay $117 a month. I'm 24, 2007 350Z base... $1000 deductible. Statefarm...
Is that a good price? I never really shopped around, just got stuck with the same company when I bought the Z. I wonder if the rate will drop a bit once I hit 25
EDIT: BTW, I would never consider paying over $400 a month in insurance... maybe for an exotic car as a rich folk, but not for a 350Z at age 17... Get something else for now, keep a clean record, and buy a 370Z in a few years... time flies by.
