Default I got my new motor painlessly!

Hey guys, I've been a long time reader of these forums but this is my first post. =]

I drive a 2006 350Z Enthusiast. I bought it from a Mazda dealership last year with 16,000 miles in perfect condition for $19,000.

After I got it I noticed it was consuming oil, well come to find out after searching these forums and others that the 2006 has a rather well-known oil consumption problem. I had planned to take it in and harass Nissan about it but I kept putting it off.

In January I was involved in a collision in my precious Z! Someone veered out of their lane on the I-520 bridge in Seattle and I swerved and hit the guardian. The damage was mostly cosmetic, no engine damage, had to replace the frame rails, and radiator and fan and such, which required a engine pull, came to about $17,000. The car had about 30,000 miles on it. My insurance company shelled out for the repairs and I got my Z back mid to late february. It drove GREAT! No differences, and I was actually getting better MPG (go figure). I kept getting told that the car would "never be the same" but the shop did great work and there were no problems. Well... kind of...

So earlier this month, I had an ignition coil go out, so I took it to the mechanic that did the accident work first as I thought it may have been related. He assured me it wasn't and replaced it for me for pretty cheap. (I know it's covered under factory warranty but he did it really quick and it was only a couple hundred dollars.) I have a Lexus RX-300 that has had four coils go out in the past couple years, so I assumed it was the same deal and coils are prone to go out.

Well, last Wednesday, ANOTHER coil went out! I took it straight to the dealership. I mentioned the accident and oil consumption and they said as long as everything was hooked up correctly it would still be covered under warranty, and they could tell some wires were routed incorrectly so something may be pinched. They tried to tell me that burning a quart of oil for every 1,000 miles was normal and I mentioned the forums and TSB and they researched it further.

They decided to swap the motor, no questions asked. Told me the ignition coil failed due to an engine problem that was most likely linked to the oil consumption thing and just swapped it under warranty. My Z has 33,000 miles on it right now, so it's right on the edge of the warranty.

I get my car back either tonight or on Monday, and I'm excited!

I remember the huge discussion about oil consumption and how to get them to replace your motor so I figured I would contribute, my experience was surprisingly painless, and now because of this hopefully someone can use ignition coil failure to help their case in getting a motor swap for oil consumption.

If you got any questions feel free to ask! =]

Just called the service department, the lady I talked to sounded like she gave me a canned response like "it's the same engine, not remanufactured, brand new"

I should get my car back in an hour or so though, so I'll let you know when I see it.

I thought they wouldn't give you an HR???

Is there really a possibility that they'll give you an HR if you have OC?

Nice to see a dealer taking good care of a Z owner. Let us know if your still trouble free after about 3,000 miles. ( Oil consumption wise )

No way are you getting an HR. BTW I had mine done a few months ago, and same result. Flawless swap, runs great, happy customer . Who can complain when you get a brand new free engine in a car you bought used !

Did you ask for an extended warranty? Keep your eye out on this engine as well, some new engines are still having the same problem. Good luck though.
