Winter... what are you gonna do?
I will be driving my Honda this winter. I was going to sell it, but it will now officially be known as "The Beater". It used to be known as a Civic, but not when the Z gets stored in my garage!
I have my F-150 that I drive and leave at the train station everyday. The Z will be sitting in my 3 car garage getting modded all winter. I will put her away for the winter by the end of the month. I will occasionally take it to my dad's dealership and work on it there, he has all the really expensive tools. Thanks pop!!!

Honda or Toyota, either way you can't go wrong as a 2nd car.
IMO, a $2K car is better than investing than a winter wheels/tires package.
JUST DON'T DRIVE THE Z IN BAD WEATHER THIS WINTER!
Don't know yet how we are going to handle this winter--our first with the Z, and she is my daily driver. Hubby has a great big Heavy Duty Duramax diesel 4x4, so he may end up taking me to work....We are looking at 2 options 1) new set of wheels/snow tires just for the winter or 2)buying a cheap beater or buying his dad's old car that sits in the garage. I will be soooooooooooooo depressed if it is a bad winter again here in Pittsburgh, Z sitting in the driveway all by her lonesome for weeks on end.........*cry*, but it would be better than seeing some idiot sliding on the ice/snow headed straight for me and the Z (slo-mo)----it's not me I worry about, it's all the other a**holes out there who think they are invincible! Only thing I know is that the stock tires are NOT good to use in the snow!

You SoCal guys just have to rub it in...
At least we have seasons.
Peace
I have a 99 ZX2 that will be taking to beating from the snow and salt. I drive it most of the time anyway. Z will stay in the garage as long as the other one doesnt break down! I even thought about dropping insurance on it for the winter, but need to keep it on, just in case.
I'll be storing the 350 and using the Chev 3/4ton with the box removed and a custom built flatdeck that hauls my '01 Skidoo Summit 800 and my wifes '02 Summit 600. I wouldn't even think of driving a 350Z in the Alberta winter. Hey, I got money, but not enough to buy another 350 after some dough head slids into it because he doesn't know how to drive icy roads. NO way, ain't gonna happen !!!

Just got my pilot sport A/S installed today, nice tires haven't driven that far yet to give a good review.
I mainly decided on these tires because the stock tires are just horrible when it's cold it does not even have to be wet they will slide out with very little effort below 40° and the pilots are much better supposedly in the rain and you could use them all year around giving up little if any to summer tires.
Let's face it if you plan on driving in more then an inch or two of snow you will have more problems than just tires with the Z.
going to a corner after plowing a 4 or 5 in. snowstorm you most probably will have ground clearance problems and end up on your belly digging out

Our winter plan for the Z:
1. Wash and Wax
2. Put Stabill in the gas tank
3. Hook it up to a battery tender
4. Cover it in the garage here in Ohio
Then we're gonna load up the Harleys in the trailer and head to Tampa, Florida for most of the winter. We'll come back to Ohio every few weeks for business, and we'll start the Z and maybe drive it a little if the roads are clear of snow or salt.

I frequently travel to SoCal for business, and this just adds to my disgust. Seeing hordes people riding their motorcycles down the freeway in January! It ain't fair!
My Z is my daily driver. We will probably get snow but it's unpredictable as to how much. Maybe a couple of inches a few times, maybe 4ft. Who knows. If it gets really bad, a friend of mine with a 4x4 can pick me up on his way to work.
I've driven RWD cars in the snow and it sucks. It's usually because I can't get traction. I participated in a slow motion slide into a ditch in my 240SX on ice about 5yrs ago. If it gets too bad and I don't have a ride, I'll stay at home.
I plan to buy a used Jeep Cherokee 4WD either late this year or sometime next year. Anybody selling?

BTW - no 4WD system in the world is going to save you from sliding on ice into a ditch...
One of my concerns was that it may be difficult to find 17's to fit over the Brembos. I figured that I'd have to pay $1000 or more for tires and wheels. I might as well just get a 2nd vehicle.
I've got a 2 car garage, so storage isn't a big deal. Plus, I'd then be able to haul my bicycle and other stuff around. When I do get a 2nd vehicle, it will be a tough choice. ''Hmmm, sunny day... The Z or the bike?"
I suppose you're right about the ice. If I had been driving a 4WD that day, I still would've ended up in the ditch. I've seen many 4WD's get overconfident and end up losing it. I do believe that if you use your head, a 4WD will still be better suited for snow.
