I thought I got a good deal on my 06 for 20k and I probably could have got it for 19 or less since it's a base. (Purchased last may, before the economy was in disarray.) 24k (assuming his isn't a base) in December would have been like, getting my car for 24 or more. Yikes.

Anyway, dealer definitely is at least somewhat responsible since the car was sold illegally. But I'm having visions of stereotypes where a ditsy middle aged house wife comes in to buy a car from a sleazy used car salesman and he takes her for a ride. He took advantage of someone who was ill prepared and naive. Situation could have and should have been avoided.

Per the latest April Auto issue of CR, our beaZts are "Much Better Than Average", dude. Sometimes, modding can mess a great car up. Sorry. Any consumer advocate lawyers (i.e. pro bono) nearby?

you can easily take that car back, sold with no cats? yea thats a major issue....but you better have learned your lesson about buying a car....do your homework, research on the web about it, talk to other owners, and get a carfax, also have a trusted mechanic look it over before purchase....you will be ok

So, no matter what is wrong with the car, there's a strong chance you hold the upper hand unless there was some clause in the selling paperwork that says it's not street legal.
THIS is what I was thinking. But hey you drove it off the lot so they could say that they were there when they sold it to you and you must of done it along with the damage . So in short I feel for ya but you have just taken the big boy deep without lube.

After reading this guy's other posts I'm thinking he's just an idiot. He wants help changing the oil and asks whether or not a catalytic converter is good or bad...

I want to feel sorry for somebody who gets screwed like this, but I'm having a hard time...

or roll it down the hill and file for an insurance;;

u should first talk to the lawyer about the car, and also check all the paperwork u did.
if it doesnt say anything about testpipe and a rebuilt engine, youmight have a card in your favor.
however, they sometimes states a 'as-is' clause, but of course, having no cat is just not acceptable.

talk to the mechanic u know and dig up anything even remotely possible that could stop the engine that might have come from having no-cat. prob none but who knows, mechanics >> me in knowledge by far

How does he prove he didn't take the cats off himself?

I have a sneaking suspicion the people at the car lot don't value honesty and integrity, and might just lie about whether there were cats on the car . . .
