Oldest battery ever? My Nov 2002 Orig battery just croaked!
The original had been on since December 2002. Got a full service oil change in November 2008 and the guy checked the battery and busted it up somehow and I had to get a new battery. I got it at a different shop though because I blamed them for messing it up.
I'm not an electrical guy nor would I consider myself a big car guy...all I know is why would you wait until a battery dies putting unneeded stress on your charging system/alternator costing much more? I have a 2004 and replaced my battery 6 mos ago. Before replacing I had a friend test the charge on it which was 10 amps I think which was very low and I should have replaced it much earlier. Regardless of testing, it was time to replace it. I think 4-5 years is the max. I had no signs of problems with my battery but simply based on the fact that it was 5 years old I replaced it. I paid a whopping $85.00 for an AC Delco. It took me less than an hr to replace myself (thanks to great DIY pics on this forum). pinching pennies catches up to you.

I have had my car for 7 years 9 months and 95K miles. I am on my 3rd battery as of a couple months ago. I blame my amp and going from a DD to a weekend cruiser.
Hard to believe that i have had my Z for almost 8 years.

The battery in my 04 Z is almost 7 years old and still performs flawlessly. Recently my dog performed a little impromptu battery test. As we were getting out of the car she put her paw on the four-way-flasher switch and the lights flashed away for almost 5 hours. When I came back, I turned off the flasher, held my breath, and hit the starter. The engine roared to life with its normal vigor, so I’m guessing the battery is still serviceable.
Is this a valid assumption on my part, or is there a better way to access the health of this battery? My car only has 16,000 miles on it and I live in a very temperate climate. It rarely goes below freezing in the winter or above 75 in the summer.

Hi Erdem, first of all, thank you for your insightful post. Although I must say, I’m a little disappointed that you would prefer seeing pictures of my crappy old car battery, instead of the rather daring pics I have all queued up of myself.
Oh well, I guess it’s true about what Danish women say about the low libido of Danish men.

So ... what's up with the withholding showing us pics of your battery. I'd decide if they're 'crappy'.
Regarding 'daring pics' of yourself ... yawn. One can go anywhere online to view 'daring' photos ... but a picture of a good 7 year old battery ... well, that's a different story.
PS:
Pics of the dog too
