Did u anticipate your Z to be faster than it actually is when u first bought it?
Check for an aftermarket plenum spacer. My brother bought his car and we ended up finding out it had an airbox, spacer, headers, and high flow cats. The spacer and the headers on my Z really made the top end come alive so maybe thats why. Just an idea. Also wheels play a big part, my bro's z same year pulls a little harder just because i have 20's and he has the 18's
It was the other way around for me; I didn't quite expect the power surge, especially the torque (and, specifically, low-end torque!). 274ftlbs of torque felt s-w-e-e-t, the 1st time I test-drove it! Of course, I had never owned a Sports car before, so it took me by surprise.

switching from a VR4, I thought because of the weight difference between the two cars that It woud'nt be that noticeable that the Z was slower, but, I was wrong. The VR4 felt WAY faster but of course it was AWD also so what did i expect. Love the look of the Z though, thats why I got it. But to answer your question, Yes I kinda did anticipate it to feel faster but i was'nt dissapointed
I have driven a spanking new g37 6spd numerous times and myZ still feels like it pulls harder but when i drive the G i feel like on an openroad the g will eventually catch up and possibly pass my Z but i wont let it happen.

From what I've read, the curb weight between your Z and G (depending on the options on your G) is from 169-350 lbs. so I would think that wouldn't be such an issue since you didn't specify that your G was AWD. I've also never driven a G or an automatic Z, however, I would think you would feel like your G pulls harder between a 5 speed auto and a 6 speed manual given the similarities of the engine.
But in regards to the (OP) go drive the z and pay attention to how it operates. If you think of coming back and claim the G is faster then
I'll stay on topic, the answer is no, I did not anticipate the Z to be faster. it tops out (stock) at 150. that is plenty faster than you will ever need it to go unless you are driving a race track. quit hot rodding around before you get hurt or hurt others.
like state above, the power curve linear-ness is deceiving. Drive a s2k and see the difference.
when you get bored of 300 (like I did) go bigger, turbo or new car
PS: Z's are not fast stock.

my previous car was an automatic Rx8 so when i first got my Z i thought it was really fast. That lasted about a month until i started going to car meets, my friends have rx7s, turbo is300, and TT supra so i after riding around with them i get back in my car and it feels like a minivan. But i still love it
How many miles on the Z?? The z may not have been driven much above 5k - 6500k.
I've owned two z's now and knoticed that the engine gets smoother over time but you need to use the higher rpm's and not baby it all of the time. My 08 hr is just starting to pull hard and smoother at 5500 and i have about 3k on it now. two month's ago the car was only pulling hard and smooth around 4500. Moral of the story use the higher rpm's and be patient, the engine won't be fully broken in untill 10 - 12k. You could have a car
that's never been driven hard with 25k on it. Just my two cents!!!

of course the Z is faster as every captain obvious in this thread has pointed out.
but what the OP is talking about is the feeling of it being fast and the acceleration, not whether its actually faster...
anyways just my thoughts I havn't driven a G35, but I test drove both manual and automatic Zs before I bought mine and personally I felt like the automatic FELT faster. Again, like the OP, nobody is saying it actually is faster... just that it FELT that way. It might be my relative lack of experience with a manual, and maybe you're in the same boat there or maybe you aren't... but when I was test driving both I just felt more of a kick from the autos.
just a thought
