Default Did u anticipate your Z to be faster than it actually is when u first bought it?

I currently own 2 cars. An 04 G35 sedan, and now an 04 Z touring edition. I dont know why, but for some reason, the G35 sedan feels faster. My Z is completely stock being that i just picked it up. My sedan is stock with the exception of a Stillen cold box intake. The G's power just feels so much smoother than the Z's, and one thing im positive on is the fact that the G sedan pulls harder at higher rpms than the Z does. Now dont get me wrong, my Z is fast, and has all the feelings and characteristics of a true sports car, but to be honest, I was anticipating more power throughout the entire rpm band. The Z seems to stop pulling hard after 6k rpms, whereas my G still pulls hard. Who knows, maybe i just need to get use to driving it. I put it on the road for the first time yesterday. I'll see how i feel after driving it this wknd.

I figured out what it felt like on the numerous test drives. it is faster then your G sedan by a little bit, it must be a perception thing, or your Z is not running up to par.

what in the hell are you talking about. Your z and g35 have the same exact engine and its heavier that the z which equates to a slower car. Your thread=Fail

Mechanically the car is tip top. It was meticulously maintained for by the previous owner, and was inspected by a reputable nissan/Z mechanic in NY. Maybe "faster" is not the word that i'm looking for when comapring my G to my Z. The throttle response on my G just feels more crisper and smoother compared to my Z, and like i said in my first post, my G certainly pulls harder at higher rpms than my Z. All in all, i still love my Z and am looking forward to summer.

I'll post the question again for the mentally challenged.

Did u anticipate your Z to be faster than it actually was when u first bought it?

i cam from slow cars such as a 93 bmw 525i and a 95 mustang gt

so when i went from 15 - 16 second cars to a 13 second car it was a big jump

however you get useto the speed after a while and it doesn't feel as fast anymore than the first week or month or so..

than it didn't help when i bought a turbo civic that blows the doors off of the Z.. than it really felt slow as heck haha

Cars that sit higher always feel faster when they are not. 80mph in my wife's Accord FEELS way faster than 80mph in my Z.

But no, I test drove the car quite a bit so I was used to how it felt by the time I bought it. And I have no need for anything faster. This car is quick as sin compared to the 4 bangers I used to drive.

Deevel79: If you really think about it your thread is pretty stupid. If your z is slower than your g35 than its not in tip top mechanical condition, period. Both of the cars put the same amount of rwhp and tq to the ground. Both your g35 and z have the de engine which is the same exact engine. The only difference is that the g35 is heavier than the z which equates to a slower car. I think your getting negative criticism because your not using any type of common sense.

If you have a 1/4 mile track near your house how about your bring the cars and see what they can do. You will be able to tell which car is faster by its 1/4 mile times and trap numbers if they both have a comparable driver.

I guess i gotta take it out on the open road and really get a feel for it then. My thing is, when im driving the G and im in 4 gear (tiptronic), and i downshift to 3rd, the car still pulls hard even if im at 5500 -6000k rpms. Now when i tried it with the Z (6-speed), i dont get the same throttle response/power.

yes, but the Z has such a linear power curve... its deceiving... seems slower than it is

That I understand. The Z seems to pull throughout the power band, not just in high RPMs. I actually prefer that. I used to have a Prelude with VTEC (I know I know, VTAAAAK) and it would suddenly jump when you hit a higher RPM. I thought it was actually kind of annoying.

I would have thought the Z and G would have been similar in that area, but I've never driven a G.

I never my G IS faster. I said it FEELS faster, and pulls harder at higher rpm's. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that the Z is a faster car than the G sedan. That i know. I'm only saying that the powerband in the G feels smoother and pulls harder than the Z at higher rpms in my case.

Making a thread just about this is stupid...

The Z was faster than I had anticipated. Then again, I always doubt cars.

^OP I think I know what you mean. My dad had a G 35 and I think because your not as tightly bolstered into the seat and you sit higher when you really hit the throttle you get that "O chit" feeling that your going faster.

Many times I'll be driving my Z and see the spedometer says 80 and I dont feel like Im going fast at all. But in my dad's G I would feel like I was flying on the same road when going 55.

I really think its the construction of the car. Plus I think you get more of an OMG this is fast feeling when you are moving in a heavier car.

He just bought an E92 M3 and it never really feels like your going fast in that car (yea its probably the same weight as the G) but because of its linear tourqe curve, you may be flying but you never get that feeling like you are going to be thrown out the back of the car when you nail it.

Does that sound similiar to what you mean?

That could be it, but like i said, i'm gonna take it out this wknd for a nice ride, and get a real feel for the car.

That E92 M3 must be a blast to drive!

I used to have a 2003 350z 6 speed and my roomate has a 2003 g35 automatic.

I understand where you're coming from.

When I drive his G and step give it gas it feels like it's faster than my Z for some reason. I proabably has something to do with the ride height like everyone says.

We tested it one night anyways and I won by a few lengths. End of story.

^its fun, but I actually like driving the Z more (most of the time). I have a lot more confidence in the Nismos handling than the M3. Maybe its just because I drive it more. The 400 lbs thinner Z really make a difference when you get into really tight turns compared to the BMW.

The M3 is an awesome touring car. When we take trips up to Vermont we always take the BMW because its a lot more comfortable, has space, and moves really good on the highway.

But I love my Z

The Nismo actually gets a lot more attention than the M3. I didn't believe people when they said people tell them "nice Porsche" Then I got it 3 times in a week.
