New car 5000 KM legend...

I heard that when u get a new car. You should not overdrive the car or make sudden acceleration until u have finish 5000 KM and proceed with an oil change and maintainance.

This will help to pro long your car engine life span. Is that true?

The more logic explanation would probably be because the engine oil use by the manufacturer is not in good quality.
Would it be different in a sport car?

all you have to do is follow the 1,200 mile break in (not sure what that is in km), and follow the recommended oil change intervals as recommended by the owners manual.

When an engine is put together using new parts, there's going to be metal flakes, bits and pieces, and incomplete seal. The logic behind not driving it hard is to allow the engine to wear a little and have the oil filter take these parts out. Also some recommend not to change out the oil, as the manufacturer is using oil that would cause the seals to swell and form a better seal.

But the 1200 mile is a guide line. You're going to damage the engine if you drive it hard, no matter how you treat it in the beginning. I find it funny when people talk about driving it hard after 1200 mile as if they passed through some magical threshold.
