hmm, I know i can find the sweet spot when at a red light launching the car (can't think of where it's at because it depends on my mood lol), but from 1st gear to 2nd gear don't you guys think it can only transition smooth if it's above 2000 rpm? I know you can still shift to 2nd gear under that (this is what i do to save gas don't really know if this is even true) but for a really clean smooth transition it feels as though I need it to go up to 2000. Tips?

Well I took the Z took a parking lot last weekend and did some practicing. My problem was I was giving the car way to much gas to get going. I'm now taking off between 1000-1500 RPM and it's smooth as ever. I just need to keep practicing and then I'm sure it'll become second nature. Thanks guys!

I would say that what you have to do is see at what speed your are moving into 2nd and note RPM. Then, one last time, get into 2nd about 500 RPM down letting the clutch out slowly: when it's settled into 2nd, whether you had to release or add gas, return to that speed you noted for 1 - 2 speed point and see what rpm is naturally in 2nd.

If you start with a system of RPM shifting, such as always shifting in town or local highway at 3000, for ex., you'll find how much you'll need to limit the RPM drop with gas while pushing in clutch. With '08 I shift 3K usually for moderate acceleration and find a ~500 RPM drop per gear shift.

After you get your set of shift speed/rpm points for one RPM, then can work with others. So you might see where speed/rpm points are for 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 etc. Note it, practice it, and you'll memorize sound and numbers.

Another way is to focus on speed; what RPM at 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 for applicable gears. Once you're confortable with all this, downshift is just the reverse, namely, going up on rpm while slowing down instead of going down to a limit while shifting up.

You might have soft and medium acceleration sets, then add hard.
As I wrote earlier, it'll vary a bit with passenger, a/c, etc., and road incline amount of up or down hill. Complicated? Sure, this is why 90% + 'stick' w/ auto, but reward is more control over gas flow, mpg, traction, safety etc.

after the clutch catches stay on it for a split second or 2 after, the transition will be much smoother.

you can still let the rpms go lower. dont settle at taking off at that rpm.

Dont rev it to 3000 just get the feel of it, some one cant just tell you how to start in 1st you have to learn on your own.

yeah thats what i was going to say is less gas smoother let out of the clutch because the traction control was probably kicking in if you had it revved up to 2000 or more.

when i start i only get it a little above 1000 and just slip it and the faster the clutch is grabbing the more gas you have to give it to take off anything above 2500 your clutch would want to kill you.

So if you want to launch off of the line quickly, what RPM do you guys usually rev to before you let the clutch out? Preferably with little to no squeal.

whenever i launch without squeel i don't let it rev very high i just try to let the clutch out as fast as possible withought stalling or spinning then i roll on the throatle very hard i would rather spin my tries then burn my clutch.

If im at the strip i shoot for 3k or so, dont just side step the clutch either work it with your left foot you will get the hang of it.
