Default No Props From the Old Guard?!

Greetings All...

So I'm driving home down I-290 this afternoon, and I see a white first-generation 300zx pull alongside me...I give him a smile and a wave, and he looks at me like I've got three heads and speeds off...I started thinking about this for a bit, and then it occurred to me that every old Z that I've encountered has given me the cold shoulder (about 5-6 occasions since June '03). Has anybody else gotten the same vibe from the old Z drivers on the road? Just curious...

ive gotten alot of thumbs ups from many 300zxs, so its probably just the people youve run into. also, since the 300zx is now more affordable to the general public more people own 300zxs and other z cars who might not be z car enthusiasts and might not even know what you were driving.

There are a lot of people that don't think about the whole heritage and generation thing in cars. To him, you were probably just some random weirdo waving at him.

You're probably right. When you hang out here long enough, you tend to forget most of the world isn't car-crazy...not to mention that Central MA isn't exactly a Z hotbed....

Well, no matter which one I'm driving, I acknowledge all Z'z. I waive, honk, flash lights, etc. It doesn't seem when I'm driving the Z31 that any other z generation drivers waive, look or anything. I get the same in my Z33 with all of them including other Z33's, nothing. However, when I'm driving my Z32 & see other Z32's they, like me, waive, honk, flash lights and are always smiling & go out of their way to great you. I don't get it? What happened to the love? Are the Z32 driver's the only ones left that will great one another?

Yep. Love em all!
the 87 was 22k new.
the 91 was 35k new.
the 03 was just under 34k. Funny to me that the 03 actually costs less than the 91.

True Z people would give you a wave, flash, or thumbs up. This is car has one of the greatest heritages in automobiles. Those that bought a Z as only transportation may not know about us enthusiasts!

Your 87 has 370k+....that's awesome. I only hope that I can have a car that will last that long.

How did you get 375K out of the original clutch? That is amazing for ANY car!

Not only was your '03 cheaper than your '91........the 35K was in 1991 dollars and the 34K was in 2003 dollars. So in reality........your '03 was WAY cheaper than your '91. Well.......cheaper is a bad term...........your '03 was a lot less expensive than your '91..........there..........that sounds better.

If you are ever driving in Southern California and wave to me........I will wave back......I promise......lol

Good question? The only explaination I can come up with is that it is all freeway driving but where I live it's a lot of "stop & go" & I'm on & off the clutch constantly when comuting. I will say I've really had to baby it over the last 100k because the throw bushing started slipping @ around 275k. The mechanic I take it to said to wait for replacement because he thought I'd finish off the clutch soon. But here I am 100k later....... I'm really hoping to make it to 400k because I want to take pics & send them off to Nissan with the story of this remarkable car. It doesn't leak or smoke in the slightest & uses less than 1 qt of oil between changes (4k miles). Although it isn't as fast as the 350 or even the 91 it handles great & is still a lot of fun to drive. Plus I finally replaced the factory sound system a couple of years ago with high end components so the thing CRANKS!

The guy may have thought that you were trying to show him up with the "new" version of the Z (not from a speed perspective, but from an aesthetical standpoint).

Yep. All things considered, the 91 in todays market would be at least 10k more than the 03. Probably closer to 15k. When they stopped making the Z32's in 96 a loaded TT was almost 60k!

Next time I'm down that way I'll be sure to wave at all the Z's I see but I'll probably be in my Expedition. So if you see a guy in a big black Eddie Bauer waiving you'll know it's me.

bixby-There is no way a 96 TT topped out at 60K.The dollar/yen ratio made the Z a very high priced sports car when the SUV craze really started.Add high insurance rates and a list price of 42K for the TT and about 45K for the roadster and you have the death of the Z32.
