If I had an opportunity to buy an 07 or 08 Z for the HR engine, I may, but I don't think I am really missing out that much other than the slightly better mid-range.

If you think you are going to feel the HP difference between a revup and a HR, your sadly mistaken and anyone who does claim that is pretty much full of s***. 06's have a better range of performance parts than the HR. If you want something that you are not going to modify then get the HR, but if you want something that you can play with get a revup...

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking into purchasing an 06 or 07/08 350z in the near future; aside for the differences on paper (HP, Torque, etc), is there anything else that differentiates the 06's from the 07's and 08's? Also, as I have read from this forum, the 03's apparently have a tire feathering problem. Do the '06 and the 07/08 models have special problems like this that aren't found on any of the other years? If so, how crippling of a problem would you think that this is?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Wish I could afford the newer Zs. I'm looking to buy an '03,guess I'll have to spend the extra to get the tire issue fixed.
I think you'll find most of the '03's have taken care of the tire issue. One thing not mentioned any more is that the '03's had a bounce problem due to the OEM springs. The car "jiggled" pretty bad on any thing but smooth roads. I changed my springs to Tein S-techs and solved that.

The hump has nothing to do with safety. The HR block is just taller than the DE.

I have an early '06 MT that had an oil consumption problem. Dealer swapped it out under warranty at 25,000 miles, no problem. What they explained to me was that one of the piston ring suppliers F'd up on the specs. It affected about half of the early '06 Zs, regardless of trans. It's just that the automatics don't rev high enough and often enough to blow out that much oil.

Thanks,I've found some with high mileage but are well maintained for under $15K. As far as the warranty goes I'm not worried about that.
sswa, thanks for the info,I'm going to look into coilovers so I can get rid of the stock ride height.

Sorry - only partially true. Yes there was a ring issue - but it was on a batch of rev-up motors only. The auto got the DE - no OC issues..

I have a 2006 gt I ordered it in Oct of 05 and received it in Jan 06. I have never had an oil consumption problem. Knock on wood!!!!! If it only affected early Revup's I would think I should have a problem. Make your own decision on this one. All the cars are nice in thier own ways and all have had equal problems. Even the 07-08's have had a notoriuos clutch slave problem. I think the HR motor is nice but I love my Revup. But there are now companies poping out nice aftermarket itmes for the Revup! So dont let that stop you. I personally dont care for the hood hump. I think it breaks up the cleanliness of the front of the car. And no the 370's dont have the hump My car is now TT. That makes it alittle different in the end.

It's not a 'hump', it's a very nice, medieval-like shield shape. It's an interesting 'relief' design on an otherwise plain hood; not that flat is bad; flatter looks smoother of course, and probably provides a slightly better line of sight for parking maneuvers, especially for those not fully aware of the spatial relations surrounding the unseen contours beyond the driver. The -power- shield does seem to hide the front a bit.

But with a polished and waxed treatment, especially on Mag Black, its languid lines surfaces up through the central plain of metal ambience like an upwelling tsunami of unrestrained, vehement, intent, aimed beyond the horizon, which will soon be a receding, if screaming, memory.

If Im not mistaken ..all Z's prior to the '03-06 car had a hump on da hood(aka medieval-like shield shape).. not sure why Nissan stopped this..but I think it looks great.

Negative. '07 introduced the hump on the hood.

Go with a 2007+ as you will likely still have a factory warranty. I had the slave cylinder go out on my 07 at 16k miles this past week, it cost me nothing to have the tranny removed and the faulty parts replaced.

2007 w/ factory warranty ftw!

I have 06 6-speed no oil consumption, I mention to the dealership and they swap out the engine anyway.
