You will either pay now (same vehicle with 45,000 miles) or pay later (motor repairs).

No free lunch.

if you want it to last 5-6 years down the road you may want to pay a little more for something with less miles... or have a budget for repairs if need be..

yeah totally agreed. growing up, when I was barley finishing high school, my dad bought a brand 2002 Altima, we drove in it everywere because it was the first brand new car we could actually buy. We still have that car today, and it has 122k miles and its running like a champ. So I'm hoping my chances with this Z are similar

Like many others said - if it checks out, I would consider it at that price point. Realize that no car will be maintenance free - and higher miliage cars MAY require some maintenance items earlier than cars w/lower miliage. But it's just a guess.

Having said that - I'd trust a Nissan more so at that miliage mark than most other manufacturers. I had a 10 year old Maxima - got rid of it for my '06. It is probably still running strong.

Good Luck

I have had good luck with Nissan V6 engines, so I would think 150K *shouldn't* be a problem.

Some other V6's Nissans I of mine:

81 280zx - Sold at 14 years old with 160k. Engine still strong, transmission going out, rusting everywhere like almost all older ZX's

83 Maxima - Junked at 14 years old, >160K. Engine was still good, everything else was falling apart (rust, steering, transmission)

86 Maxima - Sold at 12 years old > 160k, electrical quirks galore, steering rack and exhaust blown.

90 Maxima - Sold at ~ 265,000 miles, 12 years old. Engine still strong. Transmission replaced 3 times.

Usually the nissan V6 engines are pretty good. I would be more concerned with the rest of the car...

ditto... we got rid of our 1990 Pathfinder when everything else starting falling apart, but the motor itself never needed any major work and still ran great at over 250k miles!

Important piece of info': The Nissan 3.5L engine has been selected as the best in the automotive industry 14 years running! Actually, I'd worry about her clunky MT, brakes, hatch door latch release mechanism, power window motors, etc. BTW, the ATs are f-l-a-w-l-e-s-s in our beaZts!

I also don't get why one would need for 300+ HP sports car 2-dr 2-passengers convert to commute to work, sitting in traffic, doing 20MPH 80% of the time...

But I do it anyway (at least I have auto)

okay, then that brings me to my next question. How's the transmission on the car? If I drive it normally, shift at reasonable speeds and don't beat the lights out of it, how long do you think that will last me?

Definitely have the car check out if it has been modded, or wrecked. My neighbor's Nissan Maxima is 15 years old still running though it looks old since they don't wash the car, so I know they are reliable. You can find engine parts easily since Nissan makes this engine on at least 5 different cars and suv.
