hows the 350z engine?
Hey guys, I'm new to the forums and I've had my eye on an 04 350z for quite sometime now. I need a car that will last me around 5-6 years. and this Z I have found has around 90k miles on it. The guy claims to have taken really good care of it, and the cars in excellent condition. I just want to know, if I buy the Z, will it be able to hold up for the 5-6 years if I keep up on regular maintance and add nothing to the car?
it currently has
-Replaced front bumper with 2006 Bumper
-Tanabe GF210 Drop Springs
-IntensePower.com Adjustable Rear Camber Arms
-SPC Rear Toe Bolt Kit
-JWT Pop-Charger Intake
-TiTek Non-Resonated Test Pipes
and here is a picture of the car

I'm paying $12,500 for the car. Originally car was being sold at $14,100.
So In the long run, will it last me 5-6 years? and is it a good pick up or should I keep looking?

That car is simply gorgeous. But at that mileage I'd invest a little and then buy something with alot less. For only 3k more you could have a low mileage base 06, or any trim model 05 and below with low mileage with all the proper care and warranty issue free.
A clean car is a clean car, regardless of miles. I've seen Z's with 1/3 of that mileage that were simply trashed.
Get a compression test done, get a leakdown test done, and have a mechanic you trust go over all the bushings - particularly the front ones (steering rack mount, inner control arm), wheel bearings - all could be issues on a Z with that many miles, but all are also relatively easily replaced
The engines run like sewing machines in these cars by and large, with the exception of the revups, which have the known oil consumption issues (some early 03's had this issue as well, but once replaced, don't occur again, whereas even some revup replacement engines still consume oil)

if $12,500 is your price point i think its fairs for the car.....like others said, go over it with a mechanic and so long is all runs well and no issues found i would purchase it.......especially with the mods listed the car hasn't been rapped, so over all i would consider it...
Like "Z1 P" above said, the engines run great, and are very reliable.....just a note search "wards automotive VQ engine" and you will find that the Nissan VQ has been a top 10 engine for the last 13+ years in a row.....no other engine has made the top 10 list consecutive like that......
i would stay clear of 06 due to the oil consumption issues they had with that year model Z engine....other than that i would say its not a bad deal.......

I don't think anybody can say for sure how long a car is going to last even if they are brand new. So we can only advise based on "generally speaking". And for that I would say do what "Z1 P" is saying. Is the car being sold with those rims?. That is a nice looking Z. With a few K more you can get something better but don't forget those extra mods on the car.
I own multiple wheel sets and i attend drift and autoX events and every time i beat the **** out of the car...... I'm very happy on how its held up.....i have an 04 pushing 80k...

with those mods....it's a good deal bc if you were going to get a newer one for 2-3k more, there goes your mod money...if you like the mods on this car and it fits you...i'd go for it...90k miles for a nissan is not a lot at all and like previous posts have said you can never tell even with new cars....go with your gut!
Also, he claims 90% of his miles are on the highway at a steady speed. $12,500 is what I'm looking to pay, because I sold my rx-8 with 33k miles for $14,000 and have used a good $1500 for bills.
Do the Z33s tend to have a reliable 6 speed transmission if not abused?
