Next time something like this happens to any of y'all, don't touch the car. Let the police come out and dust for prints. Also another reason to keep your car clean, so you will know the prints probably aren't yours if the car was just washed.
If the cop doesn't dust for prints, he's being lazy. Unless it's raining, I dust for prints at every burglary of a motor vehicle that I respond to.

sounds like you go above and beyond. the standard cop will know it's a waste of their time. been there, done that, watched them take a report and wish us luck with the insurance claim. they dont give a **** usually. : )

Yep, even the idiots are smart enough to wear gloves.

I was just thinking about this, and wondered: Do they do this (instead of smashing the window) to lower the chance that it sets off the shock sensor of the car alarm? I'm guessing that some alarms with the sensitivity set low might not react to this method of breaking the window...

+1 -I had someone do this to my old Nissan pickup I drove in college. I had dark tint on the windows so when it shattered the glass stayed together. I walked out and found the whole window glass laying neatly on the ground next to the truck, with everything in the cab ever-so-gently removed. They got all my **** but at least I didnt have to replace any interior parts, etc.

Time out with Obama for the responding officer. Lol.

But I agree that for him to not dust for fingerprints is downright lazy. We make it optional for burglary victims, we're honest about it that 90% of the time dusting for prints will yield nothing and leave the car a mess (especially if the interior is dusted), so it's up to them. It is a waste of time for the most part but I see no reason not to give it a shot- it's worth catching the person who did it especially if they're a repeat offender and have prints on file.
