I just brought home my '04 today and the VIN does not match up to the data given in that url. Does anyone have this same info, but for an '04?

the last few digits should be numbers, the first number does not matter, it indicated air bags or not. the rest is the number of your car.

unsure if this resets each year, and/or if the numbers are seperate for airbags or not.

The last 5 numbers are the production numbers i.e. the order the car came off the line. You can call them "serial" numbers if you want but that is just a different word meaning the same thing. Look up the word "serial" and you'll see what I mean. The 6th number from the end is either a 1 or a 0 meaning the car either does or does not have the side impact air bags.

This is in the 2003 cars. I'm not sure if it is the same in the 04's.

oh and Dr. your wrong about the side air bags. look at the diagram (which is the same diagram my dealer showed me when i asked this question) it is the 10th letter not number designator that indicates air bag...this is what i was referring to in the previous post about just assuming you know facts instead of actually stating facts....not trying to flame just get a point across!

Sorry but you and your dealer are both wrong. It has been debated here for over a year and a poll was taken and as it turned out, it was the 1 or the 0 in the 6th number from the end that tells wether or not you have the side impact bags.

Bonz is right, Trust me there are guys on these boards that know twice as much as your service manager/ dealer about 350's.

You could also check the serial number from your collectors package Nissan sent out.... that would give you a linear count of your prebuy.

Thanks RxRamon.

John, trust me. I don't care what the dealer said. The sixth # from the left indicates your airbag status. If you stick around here long enough, you will see that dealers/saleman know FAR less than most of us owners who frequent these boards.

Agree...sales don't really know $hit about the Z... at least that's what happened to me when I visited some Nissan dealers here, I'm sure I know A LOT more than the sales....

Hey doc i appreciate your post and i just want the facts, so I am sorry if I offended you, I just know that from reading alot of posts on here that people sometimes just give there opinion instead of relaying reliable info...thanks for helping me and maybe we can all get to the bottom of this....

PS Does anyone know how many Z's were produced for the 2003 model???

Now this IS based on consensus and not ABSOLUTE facts but it has been tossed around so much that I would have to assume it is based on actual fact.

Supossedly, 30,000 Z's for the first production year.
