Default Slimy dealership stories

I'm sure everyone's had some experience with at least one, so let's hear 'em. Here's my contribution, happened to me this weekend, slightly trimmed:

1. Left a $1000 deposit with Cerritos Nissan here in Southern CA 2 weeks ago, for them to order me a DB Performance with nav. under the VPP program, which would get me the car for about $900 under invoice. Was told, "no problem."
2. Over the last week I changed my mind and decided to pick out a Z on their lot, so I drove to the dealership on Saturday and found a nice SB 6MT Touring model that I liked.
3. Approached the fleet manager I had left the deposit with that I had changed my mind, and told him I wanted the black Touring model out front. I also told him I was planning to lease the car through a third party (non-Nissan) company, which added up to about $344/month, with a $4000 cap cost reduction.
4. His face instantly dropped, and he walked away into the back room and talked with one of his managers.
5. Both he and the manager came out, and I was told "the deal you've struck is too good for us, so thanks for giving us a shot and here's your deposit back. We don't want to sell you the car, and we don't have to give you the VPP price either" and I was shooed out the door.

Those bastards. I will NEVER patronize Cerritos Nissan again, for anything. Went to Power Nissan in Irvine right afterwards, and now I've got a PPW 6MT Touring being trucked in from San Bernardino, hopefully arriving tomorrow. For $900 under invoice, too

I guess your experience was a blessing in disguise... because that is a good deal...

I didn't have any bad experiences like yours but $900 below invoice is a steal. Is it an '04? or an '03? I payed about $600 below MSRP... and i was happy but now i feel robbed...

Are the Z sales going down and therefore better deals are being offered? I could have used that extra money i could've saved for some nice AUDIO upgrades...

It's a brand new '04 with 5 miles on the odometer.

Keep in mind that the price wasn't something I negotiated - it's a discounted price for employees of Nissan (I have a friend who works for them). Somewhere around 2.8% off invoice.

One of the catches is that it's up to the dealer whether or not he wants to sell you the car at that price - in fact, here in SoCal there are only 2 dealerships I know of that will honor it, and even then it's sketchy (Cerritos Nissan being one of them). Also, you can't negotiate pricing for the installed options - you either take it or leave it. The car I ordered pretty much had everything except nav, including the aero package, but that's OK. I'm estimating the total price to be around $3000 below MSRP. I'll have more solid numbers once I get through the paperwork tomorrow.

DANG! Lucky bum! Too bad I don't know anyone who works at Nissan... VPP doesn't apply to Nissan partners (my company is one) on the Z. I felt I already got a good deal on an 04 Z at $500 over invoice!

BTW, which is it $900 or $3000 below invoice? At $3K below, that'd be an INCREDIBLE steal.

Stay away from Maroone Nissan. They are asking $7,000 over MSRP. Called 3 Maroone dealers. Same thing. No Z for me at that price.

Here goes...

I looked for a while for a DB Base and finally found one on Ebay. I go to my dealer, we negotiate, and I sign papers. I told them about the car on Ebay, it was at a dealer 2 hours away, but he said they would locate one that was closer.

The next day I talk to him to see what he found, and he said I had to come back in to sign MORE papers for a higher payment! WTF?! He said the only DB Base on the East coast was the one from Ebay, and it had more options on it than they originally figured on.

I hung up the phone and immediately called the dealer who placed the Ebay ad. I told him my story and said if he could beat my dealer's price I would drive 2 hours and buy it from them. He ended up giving me $12500 for my '02 Spec V with 26000 miles, and charged me $26380 for the DB Base with aero, cargo, and splash guards!
