Default need cheap insurance

i am looking to find an auto insurance policy with some other insurance company that would be cheaper that what i am currently paying. currently i am under my parents policy with two vehicles. i am listed as a occasional driver and my parents records are clean. I have had two accidents and a few claims on the policy due to wheel theft, hit and run. I am 20 years old and i am eligible for the good student discount as well as a discount when i turn 21.

if you guys know of any insurance companys that have low rates and that would help my situation out please post them on here.

Thanks

You get a discount for turning 21? Thats news to me, was only under the impression you got rate reductions when you turn 25, get married, and you put the wife on your policy. Hell I'm looking at a min of 1k every 6 months through State Farm and I've got a perfect record. I'm only 23 and unmarried, and that qoute is on a 2003 Z

yeah im with state farm right now, my parents have been with them for the last 25 years. There is a discount (approx. $500) when you turn 21. We are paying 2400 every six months, 4800 a year on just two vehicles (98 crown vic, 01 Prelude SH). they actually didnt honor my good student discount this renewal, because it was slightly lower than a 3.0 last semester. i was actually really sick during finals and didnt do as well as i could have. i even have documentation for my numerous doctors visits and emails that i saved to my professors. this discount would have been approx. another 500.

I would say, definitely not. Right now you're being "subsidized" by their long-term relationship with the insurance company and their good record. Splitting you off from their policy would cause you to lose that benefit.

On the other hand, I'm no lawyer, but it would appear to me that it might make it easier for someone in an accident that you might cause to sue your parents (since they're on the same policy). I don't know this for a fact, but there might be advantages to your parents if you got another policy. Maybe a lawyer here can provide a "ruling".

Default Try Costco

If you have a Costco where you live, check them out. Costco now offers auto insurance to their members through American Express, and apparently they are 'A' rated.

My wife and I currently pay almost $1200/6 months for full coverage on a '95 Integra LS and a '99 Camry LE through 21st Century, and when I called Costco, I was quoted $740/6 months for even higher coverage, so we switched.

Also, when I told them about my impending purchase of a 2004 Z, I was told that the insurance premium would only go up about $100, to $850/6 months for coverage on the Z and the Camry (I'm planning to sell off or trade in the Integra).

i got a quote on a bike as well. 868 a year for a 2001 600cc bike. I actually want to get a 03 Yamaha R6, so im guessing it would be a little higher. but right now its about $72 a month.

my brother who is 16 will be added to this policy too in the near future. my parents have learned from their mistakes of getting me a car too soon. I was 16 and they gave me a brand new Prelude. My dad wants to get him a 350z, but this car has really high insurance. with my brother on the policy as well as the Z it went up really fast...this was with my brother having a good student discount. they said that the Z is a high risk vehicle etc. etc.

why is it that ive heard people on here saying their insurance actually dropped when they got the z?

Insurance rates vary widely by company and location. Here in So Cal, I've found that Mercury offered the best rates for me. 24 years old, only one minor moving violation; no major claims.
About $1700/year for 50K prop. damage, 100K/300K liability, 5K med pymnts. $500 deductibles.

Try E-surance.

I'm saving $150 every 6 months switching from Progressive and that was the lowest I could find before.

I am paying 1400 a year for my Z which is not too bad. Then again I am 32 and have been with State Farm for 9 years. Had I not moved overseas for 3 years and had a break in coverage, my insurance rate would be around 1100 to 1200 a year.

You are screwed if you are under 21 and have a 2 seat sports car. It is best to stay under your parents for now.

State Farm $736/1year full coverage. It is only $644/1year for my Lotus Turbo Esprit. 38yo, perfect driving record and have been with State Farm for over 15 yrs.
