At a local country club I worked at, A Young gentlemen handed my the keys to his M5, and a $100, because he had no choice but to let us valet his car, and was very polite in asking me to please be extremely carefull with his baby.
I took the liberty of making damn sure NOTHING happened to his car, we moved another car, parked this one in the closest spot, and actually ended up having two of the valets "stand guard" all night, and, as per his request, he got his car back without even .1 Miles on it, he attempted to hand me another $20, But I told him it wasn’t necessary, and assured him that on my word his car was exactly as it was when he arrived.
Number one rule for a valet:

you can set a virtural fence around your car and if the car moves out of that area it will call you / page you / call cops what ever you say..

1. I meant it's as a deterence, I don't want to go to court with evidence and sue them and all that mess
2. Is that an actual product? Allows you to surf web, find your car, setup virtual fence?

1. well... if someone ****s up your car you want as much evidence as you can against them... setting that timer to show time the engine was running and miles drivin is pretty good.. example... you just got new tires last week.. valet brings your car to you and you smell burnt rubber.. you look at your rear wheels... melted... get in the car.. 30 miles on your timer with 20 mins running... evidence...
2. yes it is an actual product.. mercury (auto maker not insurance) tried sellin it to me with my cougar for 500 bux more... i was highly considering it... he showed me his car... it showed thelocation of it in the parking lot and the route he drove to work and the top speed / average speed etc...
3. you check on the web while your at work / at home / on vacation to check up on your car...

Not a dick move at all. I would most likely do the same or other times I just tip them well and ask them to park the car in the front spots. As long as you respect them(ask nicely, tip them) like the way you want them to respect your car, most of the times they will take care of your car the best they can.
Not a valet issue, but the best buy install guys are really **** about other people even breathing the air in the install bay due to safety issues. When I had my alarm installed I just wanted to drive the car in the bay myself, but an employee ended up doing it instead.

Alll during my break in period :-( I asked the other employee I was talking to to make sure the other guy wouldn't touch my car the rest of the day, tipped him well, and all was well.

Turbo timer idea... Well, if you have ever been in a turbo timed car, the car does not start to count down untill after the key is out of the ignition. Once that happens, the parking brake MUST be up or it will shut off at once. You could not say shut down in 3 minutes and have it do so, because it has locks to make sure in that 3 minutes you leave the car someone doesnt hop on in and drive it onto a trailer and fly off.

I hate valet's. I dont know why people even consider it a service. Everyone knows if you drive in in a nice car there going to flog it till they park it. Everytime I pull up somewhere that has valet, it just pisses me off. Not only am I going to spend money in this place, but now I have to pay some *** to park my car, and or tip him a lot so he doesn't mess it up? I mean thats rediculos. Especually when I can just park it myself and not have to worry about it. Its not a service, its just an excuse for places to stroke their customers for more money. I never let valets park my car, even when I drove a pos 1984 prelude.

Unless someone is really familiar with our cars, they probably wouldn't realize that there are 3 seperate trip odometers, so I am sure you could set at least one that they would not know about. If you wanted to do a rev-limiter the easiest way would probably be to get an MSD ignition (Digital-6 I think) and put in a 2000 RPM chip or something like that.. I think they also sell stand alone rev-limiter units that are pretty cheap. That still wouldn't stop them from dinging your car, but at least it would save your engine. I still wouldn't valet a car, I wouldn't pay anyone for that "service", I'd just park it myself and get a little exercise walking.

Once upon a time I dated a guy who valeted cars. After he'd tell me stories about what they'd do to ANYONE'S cars--it didn't have to be a Ferarri--I'll NEVER valet any of my cars. I'd rather walk 2 blocks in 4 inch heels than have to worry about my car all night. Now I'm sure there are some wonderful valets out there, I just don't know which ones they are, and I'd rather not take my chances. I love my car, no matter how much it's worth monetarily.

I'd never valet my car. I worked security in a local (fairly affluent) shopping center and I personally reported valets who joyrided people's cars off the property. I saw them take Ferraris, Porsches and even Subarus off-property.
The manager joked with me about the crap they'd pull, as if I was on HIS side somehow. I couldn't understand why he'd tell me all the crap they'd pull, but I couldn't even believe it either.
The problem is so widespread that I've thought about starting a business with equipped camera cars. I'd go to properties that have contracted valets and bust them on their bad behavior.
I can't tell you how many accidents and how much damaged property I saw in just a few months at that shopping center. I'll never ever valet any car I own. I don't care how expensive or cheap the car is...
