Default Thinking about a Z

I realize there are probably a hundred posts like this so I apologize. But this is a big decision for me and so I would like to be informed and this is a great place for that. I am considering a 350z along with a few other cars but this would be my top choice. I am 25, have a gf but no kids or anything. So don't need a ton of space. This car WILL be my daily driver and I drive twice a month to visit my GF 3 hours away. I won't be taking the car to the track or putting mods on it.........not my thing. I just like to drive. I will be getting an auto(a sin to you guys I know ) but my gf needs to be able to drive it sometimes and she can't drive stick(in fact I havent since I was 17). My questions are....for those in MO or KS how does the car do in winter? Those who have Z's how do you deal with only having two seats? Is it annoying, or do you rarely care? Is the car your daily drive car and how does it handle that responsibility? I have driven a G coupe and Mazda RX8 (I worry about the engine on that) I love the look of the 350......and it's not the most practical I know but I am 25 and I can be a bit impractical. I really appreciate any tips or advice...thank you !!

ALSO....this is my first car I will purchase on my own....I have had a 98 Grand Prix and 2003 Bonneville as other cars and its time for a newer and sweeter ride. I am looking at the 03-05 ranges due to my budget...thanks again.

I wasn't trying to be a dick to begin with I was just asking simple questions. If nobody wanted to answer then fine. I figured I would ask people in the know. Like I said I apologized for redundancy in the post. That guy, was a typical ******* and so I replied. I don't anticipate that most of you have that attitude but hey they are everywhere I guess.

get some thicker skin and shrug off the sarcasm or you will not like this forum. people bash on autos, it makes them feel like more of a man. who cares what anyone thinks? its your car, and the autos in the Z are very responsive and well done.

I don't even understand what you're asking. go out and drive one and see if it's to your likings. it's a fine daily driver, that's what mine and many others use it as.

Thanks...much appreciated. Do you live in a typically good weather area?

I have sort of heard that is the case with any RWD sports car. I have only driven FWD sedans. I guess if there is a snow storm...that is a sick day call in for work

350Z is a good DD. See if you can get one that's still within the warranty period if your budget allows it. Get an extra set of OEM wheels for winter, and put some good winter tires on it. No RWD car is really good in the weather, but most can manage (this coming from a guy who drove a 300ZX twin turbo in New Jersey winters) if the snowfall is light. Otherwise you'll want to quickly consider a winter beater, which is what I conceded to.

The Z can be a great DD, 25-28mpg, with a fun right pedal. Everyday groceries, gym bag, golf clubs, etc., fit without a problem. If you plan to go away with your gf in your Z for more than a weekend, trunk space may be a problem.

if your going to drive your Z in the winter, be sure to drive safely and extremely cautiously. I drive my Z as my dd in maryland - when we get bad snow storms I take the family's Volvo SUV to work.

If YOU want an automatic so be it but why would you spend 15k on something for somebody else? I drove FWD in the snow my whole life and i'll tell you this you would rather have a stick in the snow, more control in my eyes.
If you are living 3hrs from your GF are you getting married? I mean this type of car isn't your normal car i've found out real fast. It's tons of fun and if you are looking for a practical DD this isn't your car. I mean the G35 coupe you spoke of would be a better choice stick or not. You'll find that when you need to have another seat you'll be pissed and nothing you can do about it. I have a Titan also so room isn't a problem. Hell i w ouldn't even have this car if my mom didn't pass away.

as for the tude' you tossed out way too harsh and way too fast in this relationship we call the 350z forum, you need to calm down a bit and this from a giant hot head that i am.

Girlfriends may come and go but you'll be paying for this car for a while. Do you even know how high insurance is on a two seater? under the age of 30? Save some money buy a house and get a wife.

i live in topeka kansas, and yeah we have some bad snow storms here some that a 4x4 truck can barley get through but as far as just regular snowing the z does pretty good, and also being an auto it will be alot easier, make sure you get traction control (imo) me and my dad both have touring models i have a 6spd and he has auto, i never drive mine in any weather but sunny, but i have driven my dads in the winter and it gets around very decent for what most people would think of it. if your planning on the whole family thing then go with a g35 imo aswell, you dont want to be upside down in your car and need to get out because you are having a kid which is gonna cost more money.. but thats my 2 cents.. do what you like, stick with a z/g imo... and rx8 rotarys are crap (once again my opinion) lol. and insurance should go down at 25 atleast that is what it is for my insurance company dont know if it varies LLL.

I'm pretty sure Emski was referring to Terrasmak, not you.

I have an ex-wife and 2 daughters, so I bought a Z so I WOULDN'T hafta take 'em with me! ! I also have a Sport Trac, so it's all good. I think just having 2 seats makes it feel more like a real sports car(although I'd be extremely happy with a G!). I'm not gonna bash anyone for driving an auto, but I think everyone and their brother should at least learn how to drive a stick(although that does limit the amount of fools that will even think of asking to drive your car!). Get what you want, just know that if things progress with the g/f and you have any more additions to the family, you may hafta lose the Z...

OP, If you prefers and WANTS an Automatic, that's ok to state that. You don't have to make random excuses that your gf needs to drive it etc. If you're not marrying her, don't buy a car for her - buy it for yourself!
