Default 2003 Bose

Hi, I am fairly new to the forum. But have been lurking for a while. Info. posted by members of this forum had helped me immensely in deciding to go for the Z vs others like G35, SVT Cobra, S2000 etc.

Would appreciate some info. on the 2003 BOSE.

The poor sound quality of the 2003 BOSE system has been well documented by members of this forum. However, I wonder if it makes any difference when the car was built. My 6M performance was built in Feb/03, and I must say I am not that displeased with the BOSE that came with my car. Now, may be I simply don't recognize poor sound quality even when I hear it. But the BOSE system in my car doesn't sound half bad to me.

I guess I am just wondering for those of you who own a Z built say after Jan/03, whether there is anyone who is satisfied with the BOSE sound quality?????

I apologize if such question had been asked and answered before.

Thanks.

When it comes to audio.........beauty is in the ear of the beholder. My car was produced in May of 03 and I was not at all satisfied with the sound. I had the replacement amp installed today. You should go to the thread on the Bose fix in the audio section of the forum to find out more.

I am glad you are somewhat satisfied with your system. You have saved yourself a lot of frustration by simply accepting it as is. However, I recommend you get the replacement amp, you will like it even better.

Hi, Wedge,

Ths for the info.

In fact, bought my Z used with 500 km on it. So, I just contacted the dealership where the original owner had bought the car. They told me that the original owner already had a new amp put in. May be that explains the improved sound quality that I hear. But the dealership said it was still a factory amp they put in to replace the old one, not a different kind of amp. So, still baffled as to why the same factory amp, albeit new, would make such a difference. Nevertheless, bottom line is I am quite satisfied with mine now.

Ths for all your help.

By the way, all Z models (Track, Perforance and Touring) in Canada get BOSE, but Track gets the one with the 160 watts.

There is a second TSB for replacing the amps. The original owner may have had the first replacement amp put in which is not too good. If your car was produced prior to 9/28/02, (look on your door panel for production date), tell the dealer to reference TSB NTB 03-086. If your car was produced after that date, tell your dealer to reference NTB 03-087.

The part number of the new amp is 28060-CE400. You probably have 28060-CD400. Don't let the dealer put one over on you.

Default Canadian Dealer support

Momentum,

Let me know if the dealer gives you any flack.

My dealer claims that he doesn't know about any problems with 350Zs and the stereos. He also claims that the dealership has not seen any tire feathering problems BEFORE MINE. He did quickly offer an alignment. Free within the first year or 10k km is the canadian policy.

Most of my friends have commented on the poor quality of the stero in my Performance model. I suspect I may be in for the replacement amp too. My Z was born 02/03.

If your dealer is supportive, I would be interested in knowing who they are.

Hi Boske,

Calgary Alberta driver here. Dealers here also claimed they know nothing about stereo, tire or tranny problems. That I am highly skeptical. I mean, why would they advertise their problem? Mind you, having said that, I have a friend with a Z with over 21,000 km on it. He has had no problems whatsoever except the power window which was covered under warranty. So I guess there are some lucky owners out there.

So your car was made same date as mine (Feb/03). As I said before though, I purchased it second hand with 500 km on it. The previous owner, through the dealer, had already replaced the amp, in fact, I understand the whole head unit. The problem was volumn going up and down by itself. Now, it's fine as I have not noticed it since I have had the car. I also did not notice any bass problem as reported by some members. If anything, the bass is quite strong, now, could this be what some members referred to as 'over-boosted bass'? I don't know. As I said before, I am not well versed in the BOSE problem in the Z, and I have only had the car since August of this year, so apologize if I sound ignorant.

Just turned over 3,000 km this month. Now broker in, have had much more fun driving it. Had my first oil change yesterday. Love the Z.........

Ths for your support Boske.
